Micah's Mission - Canine Hospice

Donation protected
My name is Christy and I would like to share Micah's Mission with you. He is our senior rescue dog whom we adopted with the understanding that he will probably only be with us for a short while. We are his hospice family. I do not know what his past was like. I do know that his present and future hold only incredibe amounts of love and hugs <3

Our goal in fundraising is to bring awareness and support to hospice dogs in need. Just because they need medical assistance does not mean they don’t deserve a loving home of their own. What they DON’T deserve is to be euthanized because of something they cannot help. Our hope for Micah is that we can support him as best we can until HE decides to travel the rainbow bridge. As you can imagine, this can be pretty costly.

Donations will provide medical support for Micah. Any remaining funds will be donated to local animal shelters.

November, 2015 brought closure to Micah’s homelessness. I do not know how long he had been a stray. One morning as I was leaving for work, I found a critter rummaging the garbage in my garage. I shooed it out. Once outside, my heart shattered and I couldn't believe my eyes. The "critter" was a beyond starving, hairless and blind dog.

I fed him that day. He ate greedily and left before I could help him further. That night after work, I walked around my neighborhood and explained the situation to all I could find. David and I thought of him often. 3 weeks later, my neighbors found him lying in the middle of the street and brought him to me.

That was the first night he spent with me. I can only imagine how terrifying it is in the wild for a sick and blind animal. He slept soundly and peacefully for what was definitely the first time in a long time.

The next day, the shelter picked him up. It was Sunday and he needed immediate medical attention. “Please, don’t let him be put down.” I begged of the officer.  “Can I name him?” “You sure can. This will be the name he will keep through his time at the shelter.” “Micah, his name is Micah.” (It means poor and humble in Hebrew.)

When he was finally able to see the vet, his prognosis was not good. “He could pass any day.” I immediately broke down in tears. To the officer on the phone, “I’m sorry, that was not what I wanted to hear.”

That night, David and I talked about the situation. We agreed that if Micah was going to die, it would not be in a shelter. It would be in a loving warm home where he would never have to worry again.

That weekend, I went to visit him. I took him some food, vitamins, a pillow, and a sweatshirt. I was sure his naked little skin was cold! I took him out for a walk in the sun and we just hung out. There is something so special about him.

That weekend, he came home. Merry Christmas early!

Micah is starting to grow some peach fuzz on his naked skin. His energy improves every day and today his daddy said he saw him running. He is completely potty trained and knows basic commands. Most of the time his blindness does not really affect him, but on occasion he will run into something.  We have a multi-level back deck (with fenced yard) and an upstairs. He navigates the house and yard like a champ.

With your help and loving support I know great things await Micah in his future. Please help me share Micah's Mission and don’t forget to watch for his updates!
