UVV Goes to Ukraine!

Donation protected
Ukrainian Village Voices will spend two weeks traveling in Ukraine this summer to learn and document Ukrainian village polyphonic singing. Led by Ihor Perevertniuk, we will accomplish this by living closely with and learning directly from the singers in each village. These songs are quickly disappearing due to the loss of interest by modern society, the physical separation of village and city, and mere senior age of the singers. UVV will continue this vocal tradition’s preservation through a culminating performance at The Ukrainian Museum and a public workshop in New York City this fall.

We need your help! We aim to raise $8,000 to send 12 members of Ukrainian Village Voices on this trip. These funds will allow us to pay for food, lodging, travel costs (including a driver and van rental) and, very importantly, to give back to the people of the villages who will so generously open their homes and share their knowledge and songs with us.

VILLAGES WE ARE VISITING

WHO WE ARE

Ukrainian Village Voices (UVV) is a collective of Ukrainian and non-Ukrainian singers, whose mission is to preserve and revive the tradition of Ukrainian village-style, polyphonic singing.

We have worked tirelessly to share this unique Ukrainian folk tradition with the greater public with over 50 performances within and beyond the New York City area. For the last six years, UVV has successfully organized more than 45 exciting and intensive public vocal workshops led by native and diaspora Ukrainians such as Mariana Sadovska, Julian Kytasty, Maria Sonevytsky, Nadia Tarnawsky, and groups DakhaBrakha, Rozhanytsia and Drevo. We've also learned from musicians of various backgrounds who are experts in other singing traditions found in Ukraine such as Yiddish and Romani music. We invite you to read our story! We are also thrilled to announce the release of our debut album on Jalopy Records this May.

We thank you for any amount donated, and we will send each donor a custom UVV sticker! All rewards will be mailed by the end of September 2018.

As Ukrainian Village Voices is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, donations are 100% tax deductible to the full extent of the law.
