Funding Graduate School

Donation protected
Hello family, friends, and kind strangers taking the time to read my story.

I am writing to humbly ask for your help and support in helping me get to graduate school. I was admitted into the Social Work MSW Program at the University of Southern California.

I had the privilege to attend the University of California, Santa Cruz and became the first in my family to attend a four-year university, and am now pursuing a graduate program. My dream is to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and assist those who have or are developing mental health illnesses as well as providing them with the proper resources and care that will maximize the individual's well-being.

My life experiences growing up in a low-income family in East Oakland, CA is what motivated me to pursue a graduate program. As an undocumented student I encountered many financial and emotional barriers while trying to complete my undergraduate degree. However, I had to be more resilient than ever and work hard towards the finish line. I've had to take up more than one job during my undergraduate career to be able to make ends meet since my family was not able to help me financially.

As an undocumented student I am ineligible to apply for federal financial aid. This puts me at a disadvantage because I am not able to qualify for any loans that are offered to students, which means I have to fund my graduate program through private loans with very high interest rates that start compounding immediately. My family does not have the funds to help me finance my masters program. Tuition itself is 100k without including books, living expenses, and other mandatory fees. So far I have received 35k in scholarship money but this is not nearly enough for me to be able to attend USC. I created this GoFundMe page so that I can raise money to pay for part of the interest that I will be charged while studying at USC.

I am reaching out to ask for your help to help me reach my goal to attend USC and be able to return and help my community by providing them with resources and guidance as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker that so many desperately need.

My life experience has given me the ability to understand communities and individuals who face harsh challenges, as well as the passion to make a positive difference in their lives.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! Any contribution will help. If you have any questions feel free to reach out.
