Sgt. Daniel Pedersen US Marine Corps (ret.)
This is Dan Pedersen, a 24 year old Sergeant who just finished his 5 year tour of duty, with the US Marine Corps. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton, and served in the Middle East and in the South Pacific theater. He was officially discharged from the military on February 3rd, 2018.
Shortly after returning home Dan developed a cough. He worked through the pain and discomfort but knew he needed further medical attention. Doctors found a tumor in his right lung on April 26th. Dan then had his first surgery on April 29, 2018 and was diagnosed with a small cell Neuroendocrine Tumor. It is extremely rare to find this form of aggressive metastatic cancer in such a healthy young man. He has chosen a special form of immunotherapy, that is not covered by his insurance. This therapy includes two-three years of strict adherence to a personalized medical protocol. Through many miracles Dan is able to travel to receive these treatments.
Currently, Dan is working as a certified EMS provider in downtown Salt Lake City for a ambulance agency. One of his many aspirations includes attending nursing school to further his education within the medical field. With proper treatment, Dan will still be able to accomplish these goals, have a family and live a normal, healthy life.
