Unemployed / Loss of income
Donation protected
Losing my job in August 2018 has taken its toll. Each time I lose a job or finish an assignment, (contract paralegal work) I have to use saved money to pay the bills until the next job starts. Usually it is not long after one ends that another starts. But this has been a long stretch and I finally reached the bottom of the barrel. I have no more funds to use to pay the bills during this period of unemployment. This round of unemployment has gone on now for several months. I am broke. Seriously broke.
I have been working as a paralegal for 20+ years in Dallas' biglaw law firms. I am 64 years old and I have rheumatoid arthritis. When I am working, I go to work everyday and able to do my job quite satisfactorily. But when I interview for new assignments, prospective employers see an old guy that walks with a limp or a cane. I face age discrimination. If someone does take a chance on me I feel like they are happy with my work. Most assignments last a year or more until the case is completed.
I am active in my community serving in the APA pool league, active as a team captain and league division rep. My team is set to start its 15th year. I also am active as a wedding officiant, and have officiated approximately 1000+ weddings in the DFW area since 2005. (www.thepreacherman.com)
My wife is disabled. She has been for over 12 years. I am the sole breadwinner. We have 5 grown kids and 11 grandkids.
If you can help, we will be so thankful. We know most can't. Most of us are in the same boat, about a few paychecks from being in big trouble. Well, we are there, in big trouble, and if you are one of the ones that can help, we would be most appreciative. We have owned our house for 10 years, but will be losing it soon if we dont catch up the back payments this month. Bills are due. Christmas is upon us.
Thanks for being sensitive to our plight. We hope 2019 brings a fresh start.
