UMCPB School in Haiti

Tax deductible

In July 2010, after the earthquake destroyed Haiti,  Fritz Etienne, a member of the United Methodist Church of the Palm Beaches, went to help build a small church in his rural home town of Thomas-Elie of Jeremie located near the southwestern tip of Haiti, which would be the first Christian church in that community.   While the church was being constructed, Fritz received another calling from God leading to another vision of starting a school after the church building was finished.

In October 2010, we opened the Christian Vision of Thomas-Elie school with 30 students. Today we have over 200 students, from 1st to 6th grade.   Our school is accredited by the government, and our seven teachers have done an awesome job with our students.  Many of the students transfer to the government run elementary schools and are placed in accelerated grade levels based on their abilities as a result of the education received at Christian Vision of Thomas-Elie.

In October 2016, tragedy struck Haiti again, and everything that we had worked so very hard to accomplish over the last 7 years was destroyed completely by  Hurricane Mathew.

The teachers and students persevered and continue to hold classes in a local home owned by Fritz.  We also continue to support weekly bible study meetings and worship, giving glory to our savior Jesus Christ in the space under blue tarps.  With the help of a UMCPB Missions grant, we have started the work to rebuild the school with a vision to improving the facility so not only will it be better for the school but it will also serve the community as a shelter against future disasters like Hurricane Mathew.

Our initial goal is to raise $20,000 to support the re-construction of the foundation, outer walls and roof of the school building.  Estimates are being gathered for the completion of the interior and furnishing of the space to complete the school/church meeting area project and could approach $200,000.  Any support for the students’ school supplies is also necessary and very much appreciated.

We are grateful for your support as we help bring the message Jesus’s love and grace to the community of Thomas-Elie Pestel.  Sincerest Thanks and may God continue to bless you and this ministry.
