Baby Avery

$19,601 of $30,000 goal

We started noticing bad bruises on Avery's legs, and some broken blood vessels on her neck. After getting her blood work done, we were given the diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. We started chemo therapy immediately. This whole process is expected to go on for about 3 years.

Today we went to the clinic to get the results of Avery's last bone marrow biopsy. They told us that her bone marrow is .11% leukemia, down from 90% when we were first diagnosed. While this is great news, it means that she is not technically in remission. In order to be considered to be in remission, she would have to be less than .01%. Because she did not get to the desired percentage, she has been bumped up to the very high risk category. This means more chemo, more often, and higher doses. Friday is Avery's last day of the induction phase, and the first day of the consolation phase. Consolidation has now been extended a month because we are very high risk. We have been warned that this is the phase that's going to be the hardest. Avery will be sick and weak large portion of this phase. We get the next bone marrow biopsy in 59 days, we won't know until then if she is in remission or not.

We just got word today that Avery's blast count is down to 0. This means at the time they checked, there was no leukemia cells in her bloodstream. We dont yet know if she has any left in her bone marrow. If we go a few days with no "blasts", it would be a good indication that she doesn't have any in her bone marrow. We won't know for sure for a few more weeks. With this news, she has also been released from her IV. She can now run around and and not have to worry about pulling her IV around with her. We will still have to give her steroids for the next few weeks, and will have to deal with the roid rage that comes along with that. The plan is right now that we will be able to return home next Saturday after her next chemo treatment.

Again, we wanted to thank everyone for what you have all done for us. From giving money to food, to toys for Avery. It has all been a huge help. Thank you all.

We want to thank everyone again for your support. We are blown away.

Avery's numbers continue to trend the way we want. She has had 3 doses of chemo, 3 platelet transfusions, 1 red blood cell transfusion, 12 doses of steroids, and a number of antibiotics and other meds. When we first got her blood drawn, 48% of her blood cells were leukemia cells, and 90% of her bone marrow was leukemia. We don't know how much is in her bone marrow right now, but as of this morning only 4% of her blood cells are leukemia cells.

She goes back under tomorrow morning for another round of chemo into her spinal fluid and another lumbar puncture. She has a great attitude most of the time. She gets super angry when she is hungry and her roid rage kicks in. She is only 2 and is well known on the ward for being the difficult one.

We will continue to post updates as often as we can. Feel free to message us directly if you have any questions or concerns. Again, we really appreciate what you all have done for our family. It means a lot to us.
