And the verdict is..... Sweet AnaBelle has a staph infection. The infection must have been lingering on her skin somewhere and she got a bug bite, or scratch, and it entered her blood stream and settled into her hip joint. So we are here for a few days. We have to wait until her blood cultures come back negative, and a day of no fever without the aid of medications. Right now we are trying to get her pain under control, and keep her on antibiotics. We'll be here until at least Tuesday. Just wanted to give everyone an update on my sweet girl. She is doing much better today. Her fever did get high again last night, but that is normal for her fighting an infection. She has a confirmed staph infection; methicillin sensitive staph aureus. She will need to have IV antibiotics until it is cleared. There is some concern that because it attacked her hip joint, it could attack her other joints, but she is okay for now. She has to have repeat negative blood cultures, her labs have to go back to normal, the fever has to be gone, and she has to be able to move her hip and walk on her own before we can even consider sending her home. For now it looks like we're going to be here for awhile, but she is making some improvements. My sweet AnaBelle may have had a small setback. She had a great night, only needing to have oxygen for a couple of hours, and she got some much needed sleep. They had to reset her IV, because the original went bad. The good news is she feels great, and even looks great. Now for the bad news. Her CRP count was originally an 8, which is why they did the surgery. This morning when they drew blood, it was a 13. This is not good and it means the infection is still there. They're going to redraw her blood again at 12 and go from there. It is possible if it's still elevated that much she will have to go back into surgery this afternoon. She is still getting IV antibiotics, so they are hoping that helps some. I will keep everyone updated as best as I can, but I can't possibly return every single message. Thank you to every single person who has called, sent a text, visited, or even just thought about AnaBelle. You all are amazing and we appreciate it so much.Today went okay and not okay. There was some consideration for sending AnaBelle back into surgery this afternoon. They redid her blood draw at 12. The specific number they were looking at went down by 1 point. So they decided to hold off, and would retest her blood in the morning. If it has gone back up or stayed the same, they will more than likely send her back in for surgery. Her drain tube was taken out today and she was NOT happy about that at all! But there was no infection in her tube so that's good news. However, if she has to go back into surgery, she will have to have another placed for 2 to 3 days. Right now she is sleeping very soundly, and we are thankful for that. She is still on the antibiotics and her pain is under control. AnaBelle was very disappointed to miss going back to school, but all of her friends made her a card and she was so excited! For the rest of the night we are just relaxing and playing the waiting game. AnaBelle also wanted me to tell everyone that she is so thankful for all the prayers, well wishes, phone calls and visitors. She truly is a very well loved little girl!
