uCODE2 - Help Youth in Kenya Code

Tax deductible
Background:
----------------
I founded AfriTech Innovation Center (ATIC), a Community Based Non-Profit with a mission to provide and support sustainable platform for youth ages 14-22 years old in my rural home town of Mosoriot, Nandi County, Kenya to learn code, brainstorm on innovative ideas and transform those ideas into practical solutions to local challenges.  The choice of "uCODE2" name is to encourage and boost morale among young people that "they too can code." Due to low income status in the area and lack of funding, most schools and colleges have yet to include advanced, practical ICT/Tech coursework in their curriculum.

By way of the UCODE2 program, AfriTech Innovation Center aims to promote youth engagement in order to prevent idleness, reduce crime, and to effectively build resilience of at-risk youth. Strengthening the social-economic skills of youth is not only a key objective in minimizing risk factors and maximizing protective factors related to crime, violence and drug use, but also acts as an important tool in job creation, economic growth, and stir Kenyan innovative and entrepreneurial ingenuity in solving common challenges.

We need to build a community of young software developers and programmers that will eventually shape the future of innovation in Kenya and Africa at large, with the focus of solving every-day life challenges by way of technology.

Our overall goal:
--------------------
1.  Youth empowerment for self-development and sustainability, job ready and engage companies in outsourcing their work to them, creating employement.
2. Use the knowledge gained through this program, matched with the vast wealth of innovative ideas to find and develop practical solutions to local challenges.

Program outline:
---------------------
We have put together a 1 year program, starting with an eight-week intensive coding program. The youth will learn the foundations of Computer Science and programming in languages like HTML, CSS, Python, and JavaScript, as well as CAD and 3-D printing. They will also engage in a number of team-building and educational activities, interact with leaders in technology from across the country, and plan for a successful college and career path. By doing this we are actively bridging the gap in the Kenyan Technology Industry and giving youth a chance to explore their interests, break barriers.

Budget:
----------
Our current budget estimate for this project is $50,000. We believe can reach our goal if we get people like you to donate $25, $50, $75, $100, $250, or more one-time -or- on a monthly basis. We’ll also greatly appreciate companies partnering and helping us make a difference, by donating $1,000, $2,500, $5,000 or more.

This will assist us offset the cost of:
-- rent, electricity, program materials, hiring qualified tutors and stable Wi-Fi connection for the youth as they learn how to code over the duration of the program year.

Every dollar will go towards funding this program; giving a young people the opportunity to imagine and create programs to solve problems in their community.

All donations are Tax deductible and can be made to EICT Foundation, Inc., a Kansas (U.S.) registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
