Hi! I'm Julia. I have a 6 year old daughter, and I teach high school English.
After I got divorced from my daughter's dad, and came out to my family, I was looking for books to read with her to help her understand what it meant to have a gay parent. I was really excited to find that there were several books out there that featured gay parents. However, I couldn't find any about our specific situation. I wanted my daughter to have a book that was more of a reflection of our family, with a mom, a dad, and their girlfriends.
With the help of Laura, my good friend and immensely talented artist, we were able to create our first book, titled Love Is What Makes Us a Family. Our book not only gives children a character to identify with, but also hopefully helps children and parents to start these important, and sometimes difficult, conversations.
And that's where you come in. At this point, we need help getting the book published and out to the public. The amount that we are asking for will cover the basic publishing costs, as well as some initial marketing. Any money that we receive beyond that amount will go towards additional marketing. Whether you are able to donate $1 or $100, it will all be much appreciated.
