Hello everyone, I am Abigail Dickstein. You can call me Abby for short. Currently, I am a junior at The Miami Valley School in Dayton, Ohio. Throughout my years of schooling I've come to a level of understanding about my environment. MVS is known for it's challenging academics and indepedenent outlook. But something it lacks and something I've been looking for, is public appreciation of the arts.
I've been singing since I could talk, and of course hummed before then. My first singing performance was with my brother in the first grade during a school show. After that I had trouble singing alone in front of others, and more often than not turned down opportunities to perform. I then moved to MVS in the 7th grade where I decided it was time to start fresh, and try something new. I got involved with the jazz band and started singing with them at various school concerts. That started it all. As soon as I got into high school I got into Musical Theater, more stage performing, and A Cappella. During the summer of 2015 I attended Camp A Cappella at Wright State University in Dayton, OH. It was an experience of a life time! We sang "Heart On Fire" by Clean Bandit. I was finally surrounded by many others who had the same mindset as me, who had the same aspirations as me, and who had the same level of devotion to music as me. I can't thank the campers and the instructors enough for helping me learn and grow as much as I did.
This summer, I'm looking for new adventures! I'm hoping to attend A Cappella Academy. This hands on summer a cappella camp will be held in sunny L.A., California at Mount St. Mary's University! This camp was created by the bass of Pentatonix Avi Kaplan, Pentatonix's producer Ben Bram, and last but certainly not least Music Arranger Rob Dietz. This unique a cappella camp is a wonderful opportunity for teens ages 13 through 18 to not only learn and grow musically, but also to bond with others like them, create new friendships, and most importantly, make music.
I am extremely proud to share that I am one of the 73 admitted campers out of 556 auditioners, the top %13, that were accepted for the 2016 summer session. Though I am very much looking forward to attending, there are some cost complications. This is why I started a GoFundMe page. The total cost of A Cappella Academy tuition is $1,995 not including airfare. By donating to this cause, you will help me acheive my goal of raising $1,995. March 14th is the magic date. I understand it's not a lot of time to raise such a large amount of money, but I have hope that we can acheive this goal of $1,995! It would mean the world to me if you offered your support and made a donation, no matter how small, every bit counts. To experience such a rich musical environment is something I can only dream of, but you can help me make it a reality.
Once again, I would be incredibly thankful for your support and donation. Not only would this provide me with an experience to remember, but it will also provide me with the opportunity to take back valuable information to my school group, Ars Nova. Being the Co-Musical Director of Ars Nova, I want the best for them. We're a new group that started just this year, so we need all the tips we can get starting off. As you can see, we have some skills to work on, but we also have great potential. I'd like to capatlize on this potential by attending A Cappella Academy to give them so great new tips and tricks.
