A Home for the Girls

Donation protected
I am a grandmother raising two grandchildren, both girls. Corah, who is eight, was about eighteen months old when she came to me. Eight months later her adoption was final. Exactly one year ago police and child protective services removed Megan and her mother from their abusive home. Megan remains with me and I expect, when all is said and done, to adopt her as well. Our family consists of me and the girls, a pug named Moose and two parakeets we adopted to help a friend who was getting divorced.

I am also unemployed. I lost my job three years ago and I was never able to find a position that would pay the rent on my house. The reason I was not hired for any of the two dozen positions I applied for is a mystery that astounds everyone who knows me. I gave up after two years because I couldn’t take the rejection anymore. Then Megan arrived and I started fostering her, which doesn’t pay well.

If I don’t find a place to live in the next month we will be homeless. My landlords, who are incredible, kind people, gave me every chance they could. I was able to catch up on my rent at one time and pay regularly for a while but I haven’t paid rent since July, and they are forced to evict me. If it were just me there would be no problem. But God sent two innocent children to me that I promised to care for and I have let them down.

What I want to do is provide them with a home that no one can tell them to leave. A home that will be theirs for as long as they want, so they can grow up in one secure place and go to the same schools until they graduate and choose their own paths. Just like I did, just like everyone in my family did. I will find a modest house and hold it in trust for them so that when they are ready they can choose what to do with it. It is what I would do if I had the means, but I don’t. So I am asking for help.

It was Megan’s Guardian ad Litem that told me about GoFundMe.com and it has taken me weeks to garner the courage to make this plea. Please help me provide security for two little girls who had no say in the circumstances of their birth or the tragedies that caused them to end up in my care. If you can’t afford to make a contribution, believe me, I understand. A few prayers will suffice. Regardless, please pass this message on so that it reaches as many parents and grandparents, aunts, uncles, sisters and brothers as possible, people who understand what I am trying to give my girls and why. I thank you from the depths of my soul.

If you would like to know more about my wee family and our story, I write a blog called “Falling from the Middle Class”, which I invite you to follow.
