Scott’s Medical Expense Fundraiser

Earlier this year, our dad went to the ER because he was having a considerable amount of pain in his back, left side and lower stomach area. After a 5-day stay in the hospital, the doctors decided to do biopsies on masses they located in his pancreas and liver. On April Fool’s Day, he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer that had metastasized to his liver. He is a true warrior and has been fighting hard since he was diagnosed. He has a wonderful team of doctors, both here in the Springfield area and at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He has battled through 2 different regimens of chemotherapy and neither one has been successful in reducing the size of his tumors. Instead, the tumors have grown, both in his pancreas and in his liver. During his most recent trip to Houston, he learned that he is eligible for a clinical trial and we are hopeful insurance will approve this next treatment option for him.

Since March, he has had numerous doctor visits and tests, both locally and in Houston.  He has made 3 trips to Houston already, and will soon have to travel back there once every month for follow-up visits, lab work and tests for the clinical trial. My sister and I have been amazed by the warrior-like spirit and attitude he has exhibited during this battle. However, we also know that for him to continue this battle he will have a lot of medical costs and travel expenses. We want him to focus on his healing and not worry about the financial aspects of his care, so we have created this page to allow his network of family and friends to help him. Most of you already know this, but our dad has devoted his adult life to serving and protecting others and we have witnessed how important his friends, family and especially his law enforcement family have been to him. This strong network has been beside him this entire fight and we see that “no one fights alone,” as he has been surrounded by many people that love and respect him the way we do. If you can contribute financially, we would be forever grateful. If you are not able to contribute financially, we completely understand and would ask that you pray for our dad and our entire family as this is the most important thing right now. Thank you so much!
