#TylerStrong: Tyler Family Recovery Fund

Donation protected
On Thanksgiving Day, the Tyler family (mother, father, and their two youngest children) travelled to Pennsylvania to visit family when they were involved in a major car crash in West Virginia.

The father, Michael Tyler, 51, was at the wheel when he suddenly began choking and eventually blacked out. The mother, Lorraine Pagan-Tyler, 51, was in the passenger seat and attempted to steer from her seat when Michael became unconscious, however the car was in cruise control mode and was already traveling at 70-75 mph when Michael lost control. Lorraine did her best to maintain control but eventually crossed over the median into the lane of opposing traffic. They did not hit any other vehicles but landed in a ditch and hit the trunk of a tree head-on, totaling the car. The family was airlifted to different hospitals and all four sustained several severe injuries.

Michael Tyler is a community sanitarian and an active member of his church. Over the past few months he has been pursuing his Master's degree in theology. Lorraine is a Human Resources administrator for a tech company in Fort Mill, South Carolina and is also active within the church, focusing mainly on marriage, family, and women's ministry. Together Michael and Lorraine counsel married couples and regularly provide spiritual advice to their friends, families, and community members.  Michael sustained injury to his back, a broken knee, and two broken heels while Lorraine endured a broken sternum, back injury, a small cut in her aorta, a broken ankle, and several broken ribs upon impact.

Their 14-year-old daughter, Hannah is an avid fan of all things music and is an active member of the fine arts department at Fort Mill High School. Hannah is beloved by all for her kindness, her humor, and her incredible talent. Upon impact, Hannah sustained a fracture in her thigh/hip bone and had to undergo surgery to repair the damage done to her fragile body.

Their 16-year-old son, Michael Anthony, is a fitness fanatic, sports enthusiast, and a well-practiced gamer. Michael may not have been wearing his seatbelt when the crash occurred so endured the most severe injuries and his condition was deemed most critical out of everyone in the family. Michael sustained a broken wrist, a broken arm, damage to his lung, heart, kidney, pancreas, abdomen, and large intestine.

Thankfully, everyone survived, however, now the family must work on the aftermath of the accident.  With the help of some close friends and a few family members, Michael and Lorraine's eldest 21-year-old son who is a worship leader and a student at Winthrop University, Evan Santiago, and their eldest 26-year-old daughter who is currently 5 months pregnant, Crystal Rodriguez, have been working endlessly to keep their family from falling apart. They cannot do it alone and need your help to cover major financial costs including but not limited to:

-Hospital bills (ambulance, 2 life-flight helicopters, treatment for 4 patients spanning several weeks, transport from West Virginia to Charlotte, NC, approximately 6 surgeries as of now, handicap accommodations to be made at the house, and physical therapy)

-Personal finances (mortgage, various bills, grocery, etc.) that will not be able to be paid due to the two parents being out of work as they take time to heal

-The recovery of personal belongings that were lost during the crash (electronics, personal valuables, clothes, etc.)

Although they are fervently praying for a speedy recovery, the Tyler family is not naive to the challenges that await them when they return home from treatment. Michael and Lorraine, their injured children, and their eldest son and daughter will be tested in the most unimaginable ways over the course of the next year, but their faith will not be shaken. They were tailor-made to be #TylerStrong. (Photos attached below)
