Beat Cancer with Tyler

Donation protected
On the top of the list of things that they don’t teach you in school these days is How to write a go-fund-me page. Add to that How-to-write-GoFundMe page without sobbing uncontrollably because it just so happens to be for one of your all-time-favorite people in the entire world who happens to be facing the hardest challenge of their entire life: cancer. And of course the last thing you want to be doing is writing a GoFundMe page for one of your all-time-favorite people in the entire world because the last thing you would ever want for that all-time-favorite person would be cancer. Any type of cancer. And especially not of the Stage 4 variety. But that is where my little brother has found himself--at the beginning of a big, ugly battle with a big, ugly cancer that has decided to put up residence in his throat, lungs, and liver, and without permission nonetheless. Warning was minimal. If fact, this cancer was so quiet about its presence that doctors had missed it at regular check-ups and in routine blood work. It wasn’t until my brother found himself at the ER the day before Thanksgiving, unable to get solid foods down, that he was aware at all that there was anything the matter. I will never forget walking into his hospital room and seeing him in his bed, smiling, because he does a lot of that, and before I could even get both feet in the door having him explain to me that he had “some bad news…”

WHAT HAPPENED: But enough about his cancer. Let me tell you about my brother. His name is Tyler. He’s young. Thirty. With a ton of living left to do--like watch his two super cute nephews (slight bias here) grow, go to college if they choose, and have families of their own one day. We also want to see him well and able to work on his new-to-him Jeep (I’ve come to accept he’ll one day convert a classic Jeep into a Jurassic Park Jeep from the original 1994 movie, and we want him to finish that), take his momma to church (you’re welcome, mom), possibly take over the family business of preaching (why can’t we go ahead and ask God for more than one miracle here, right dad?!) He was so good at building up to running 40-50 miles per month. We want to see him recover and regain strength to run again. I don’t want to sound braggy, but my brother could probably outrun your brother. I also find him to be incredibly brave. He taxied for Uber. In Baltimore. At night. See? Brave. Also, he makes people laugh and smile with his quick, sarcastic whit--usually about politics--but we want you to contribute to his fund so we won’t go into specific detail as to whom he likes to razz on politically.

HOW THE DONATIONS WILL BE USED: So this brings me to the part that we, as Siglers, are just no good at asking for: help. Because of the severity of the cancer (inoperable), his treatment will be aggressive, time-consuming, and physically exhausting which will mean that he will be taking a leave of absence from work. There will be no income. And while Tyler DOES have good health insurance coverage, he will still be paying a hefty chunk of change toward his deductible and annual out-of-pocket max which will be right back to big fat zero come January where the deductible will have to be met again. Then of course there are the copays, the traveling expenses, grocery bills, not to mention regular bills--just things that make it really hard for Tyler to focus on beating this thing. And he will. Don’t you worry for a second that he won’t. Because he’s Tyler and he has won battles before.  And he has an astounding number of supporters in his corner rooting him on, believing in him, and praying for him. He will beat this; and any assistance will be so incredibly appreciated.
