June 25, 2016 marks the third annual celebration of this iconic vegetable at the Texas Purple Hull Pea Festival in the historic community of Shankleville (Newton County), and proceeds will be used to help college and/or trade school students from Deep East Texas purchase textbooks.
Use this handy guide to show your love of Purple Hull Peas, and support of this festival:
-Donate 1 cent for every Purple Hull Pea you ate while growing up
-Donate $1 for every bushel you've ever picked
-Donate $5 for every row you've ever planted
-Check out our rewards below for other giving ideas
The Festival is a project of the Shankleville Historical Society, Inc. -- a 501(c)(3) organization -- and features cooking demonstrations, walking tours, live music, a "foodways" symposium, and Purple Hull Peas!
