Tuzinne Festival where human rights dance 2019

Donation protected
Tuzinne International Festival of Dance & Human Rights brings together the themes of dance in East Africa as well as human rights advocacy. Tuzinne, meaning “let’s dance” in Luganda, focuses on understanding, sharing and celebrating all types of contemporary and traditional dance. Through dance performances and workshops, dance artists are empowered to address and educate audiences about human rights issues and advocacy.

Tuzinne is designed as a 3-week intensive training and performance project, which aims to address the urgent need for a common platform for professionally trained artists within the contemporary and traditional dance in East Africa. Furthermore, it aims to use dance as a vessel to educate and empower our communities.

By using dance as a vehicle to spark community conversation, we are able to:

-Bridge the gap between dance artists, companies, and  audiences on a global scale
-Support and promote Ugandan and East African dance companies
introduce dance a form of advocacy and place artists at the center of critical conversation
-Address, educate, and advocate for human rights isues
-Amplify the voices of vulnerable communities
-Build skills and improve the quality of life for at-risk rural and urban youth through the arts
-Provide guidance and counseling to children, especially orphans and disabled adolescents, through the discovery of artistic talents
-Empower youth by using art and entrepreneurship as a means of economic freedom

We are raising money to support our programming this year and continue to use dance as a platform for human rights advocacy. Your support will enable Tuzinne Festival to fund visiting international artists, cover venue expenses, and provide workshops for our community at large.

“Tuzinne Festival doesn’t just brings to you brilliant art pieces of performing arts but it brings you closer to different life experiences of human rights violence and social justice. It also allows you to identify yourself and celebrate the differences among our humanity.”
