Tucker Family Support Fund

$10,378 of $35,000 goal

I am fund raising on behalf of my mother-in-law and father-in-law.  They are wonderful, kind, selfless people, and they are currently going through a difficult time.  For the last several weeks Ron has been in the hospital.  He has had multiple surgeries, but despite these surgeries his health continues to deteriorate.  He is currently in the ICU awaiting transfer to a major university hospital.  He and his wife Patricia own their own business locally and have had to shut it down completely during this time so they can focus on his health.  Once he is transferred out of the area (about 4 hours away) there will be extra expenses such as hotels, food, and gas.  It is unknown at this time how long he will be in the hospital and how long after he will need to recover and heal or even what kind of outpatient care he will need.  The most important thing is that Patricia be at her husbands side.  Please help us to raise money so that she is able to focus on what is really important right now and that is Ron's health and helping him get the best care possible. Ron is a US Army Veteran and so far has had major complications and been treated so poorly its astonishing. He even voiced to a staff member at a hospital "next time I may be better off seeing a veterinarian" and the nursing staff member replied "I don't blame you, so would I".
This is NOT how our healthcare system is supposed to work.

Update from Patricia's Facebook: Dearest friends, I just wanted to share the wonderful news with all of you. We are finally home.
None of this would have been possible without the love, support and kindness of our Son and Daughter-in-law who gave selflessly financially, physically, mentally and emotionally.
It's been a long, exhausting and challenging time for us (2 months to be exact) and we thank all of you for being here for us with your love, support, contributions and well wishes.
I know it sounds cliche' but, in some of my darkest moments you were all the wings I needed to continue to fly. I will forever be grateful to you.
We have a long road ahead of us, but I believe the worst is behind us. It's hard to believe all that has transpired in the last 2 months. We missed Easter, Memorial Day, Ron's birthday, and our 41st anniversary. One of the most devastating blows came last week when we had to put our sweet kitty Cheeto to sleep. We knew he had some health issues but it was as though Cheeto hung on to wait till his papa got home (to our Son's house) to say goodbye. Once Ron got home, within two days Cheeto's health declined drastically.
Ron wanted to get home so desperately but I told him I could not bring him home from our Son's until he was able to climb a flight of steps. He has needed constant assistance just to get out of bed. He has not been able to walk more than 4 feet and that is with someone there to assist him. He was adamant about coming home yesterday stating that he needed the energy in our home to continue his recovery. I told him we would try it. We'd drive to the house, but if he could not make it up those stairs there's no way we could stay home. We pulled up to the driveway, he asked me to stay in the car, and said he could do this alone. I was extremely worried and apprehensive, but abided his wishes. I handed him the key to the house and turned away. The next thing I heard was the sound of the door unlocking. He made it up the stairs completely unassisted.

Well, Ron has been transferred to a local hospital. While I would like to offer good news, all things have remained pretty grim.
He does not want to and will not eat anything, thus showing the instinctual and primitive desire to thrive is not there. This is one of the most basic needs along with air to breath, shelter to feel safe, water to drink, and sleep (which his sleep is terribly intermittent ).
He is still in agony, both his fine and gross motor skills continue to decline, he is still hallucinating throughout each day.
He struggles to breath, he is so exhausted from the pain and struggle to breath that he has no energy to even try to combat the pain and sit up or move. His pain is far from under control, fevers continue to come and go, and he has very poor muscle tone.
Income remains at a halt, as he cannot work....Patricia is doing her best to be by his side, pay bills, and keep a roof over her head. The family is pulling together the best we can.
Thank you all for your continued support via shares, well wishes, prayers, and donations, you have been wonderful.

Update Copied from Patricia's Facebook page. "Ron made it out of surgery. He really fought to make it through this. He is still in recovery at this time. They were able to evacuate the infection as well as do the reconstruction. A blood transfusion was required and the road to recovery will be a long one but it's too early at this point to make a determination as to length of time. But...he fought the fight. He will be monitored closely as infection is the biggest concern and it's too soon to determine how long he'll be in the hospitalized or how much or in which way he'll be compromised. Without a doubt, we all got him through this together and we are beyond grateful."

Thank you to everyone for all the amazing support that you have shown. We cannot even begin to tell you how grateful we are for everyone who has reached out to us with messages of support and love, shared this page with all your friends and family, and to all who have donated.

I have a small update. Ron is currently scheduled for surgery on Wednesday at UCSF. They will be going in to reconstruct/reroute the bile duct that was damaged during the initial gallbladder surgery, as it has been leaking bile into Ron's body. We are hopeful he is in the best hands possible at UCSF. The road to recovery will be long, please keep sharing, keep your well wishes coming, it really makes a huge difference .

Thank you!!!!
