Visit to Manila, Phillipines

Greetings to my potential supporters.

As many of you may know, I am currently a part-time student, studying for my BS in English/Language Arts, at Millersville University. Upon graduating, I intend to obtain my PA certification for middle level education, followed by pursuing a fulltime teaching position with one of our surrounding school districts.

During the school year I teach part time in remedial studies and learning support, grades Kindergarten through 12th. I assist students with reading intervention, basic mathematics, geography, and life skills components.

When I am not either doing coursework or teaching, I coach scholastic sports during the school year; football and wrestling for the School District of Lancaster, and newly employed at Central Dauphin HS, as varsity throwing coach.

I also work in human services at a youth care facility for boys' drug and alcohol rehabilitation. On Sundays, I work as an education intern in the Christian Ed department, leading a worship arts session for pre-schoolers, and teaching Sunday school class for 5th & 6th graders. During the summer months, I work in water safety and pool maintenance as a lifeguard for an aquatic outsource agency.

I have been diligently pursuing a bachelor's degree in education, studying part time over the last 18 years. To some it may seem tedious or pointless, but through the pursuit of higher education, I was able to obtain two associates degrees; in elementary education, and the other in social sciences. Not only has this journey made me a very grateful person in life, it has also increased my networking opportunities and has further enhanced my skills as an educator, coach, and mentor, while being able to commit to serving my community.

I have spent over half my vocational life working in customer, educational, and human services and am now at a point in life where I would like to build into the chapter of starting a family.

It will be two years this July I had the pleasure of becoming acquainted with a dear friend, Rowena Navarro. We had met through a trial on Eharmony, and have been in correspondence eversince. So the premise of my trip across the continents is not only for us to meet in person, but also a chance for me to vacation, tour, and see a different part of the world, which is also a dream.

Rowena has BS in occupational therapy, and is currently pursuing her master' s degree. As an OT, Rowena owns a private practice, and provides OT services to International School Manila as a consultant. You can see her web page here:

Rowena is also a Christian, and attends Christ's Commission Fellowship (CCF), under the leadership of Pastor Peter Tan Chi.

She has told me of the many educational needs and opportunities in their country; therefore, I would also like to take the opportunity to meet her people, as well as get to see the world, from a different (life) perspective other than how we live in the U.S.
Also, I have been considering doing a year of teaching in another country, and have been for quite some time now, and with this trip I  would like to go and found out, firsthand,  what  opportunities might be available. My visit to Manila would also include touring the many sights of the Philippines, and sightseeing some of its smaller surrounding islands.

The trip itself will consist of:

A 10-day, 9-night package including round trip flight and hotel.
A small travel stipend while touring.
A financial stipend to cover time off from work.

For those family, friends, and colleagues who have supported my vocational and educational journey over the years, know that this kind of travel is not inexpensive; I thought this option might be a simpler way to see if there might be some interested in supporting me financially toward this travel package I am planning.

I obtain no paid leave time  as all of my current vocational positions are either part time or casual status, so that I may flex my schedule(s) around my college credits, based on when they are scheduled throughout the week.

I would like to thank you in advance, for your willingness to support me with this trip. Please feel free to contact me if you have further questions.

In all sincerity,
Troy Andre Richardson
