Troy's Fight Against Lyme Disease
Troy, who will be turning 13 in April, has been suffering from the devastating effects of Lyme disease and related tick-borne co-infections. Prior to contracting Lyme, Troy was an active and energetic boy, full of life. He loved to play soccer and basketball, dance and be-bop around the house, play Nerf gun wars and Man Hunt with his brothers and all his neighborhood buddies, write, draw and just had the ability to make everyone around him laugh. Since January of 2016, after being diagnosed with Lyme disease, Troy has been suffering greatly with the physical, psychological and emotional effects of this complex and often misunderstood disease. Lyme disease is a worldwide infectious disease and is the #1 vector borne illness in North America and Europe. It has been reported in all 50 states, and 25% of the reported cases are children. Troy’s symptoms include extreme fatigue, excruciating abdominal pain, digestive issues, deep muscular aches and pains, sore and swollen joints, all-over body rashes, confusion, jaw discomfort, migraine headaches, sore throat, fevers, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, head and groin, migratory pain,
hypersensitivity to light, sound, touch and taste, depression, anxiety, emotional instability, and various forms of regressive behavior. This once active and energetic boy, has lost the ability to walk, sit upright or hold his head up. Lyme disease has also triggered an autoimmune reaction in Troy, causing his body to attack and damage his own tissue. This also is very common with Lyme disease. It is essential that those suffering with Lyme disease are treated by Lyme-literate physicians. Because of restrictive insurance regulations regarding this disease, many of these specialists are not covered by insurance, as well as many of the needed medications and treatments required. Please join us as we continue to help Troy get the best possible medical care, so that he can get back to his childhood and make us laugh again.

Our son, Jonathan, also contracted Lyme Disease at age 11and a1/2 , was tutored for a year and a half and lost 20 lbs . Jon had identical symptoms to Troy's. He was unable to attend school b/c of his abdominal pains and vomiting , inability to walk, incredible fatigue and vice-like headaches. He was undiagnosed correctly until our 17th MD who was out of state and recognized it immediately.( No one would believe the crazy diagnoses and meds and treatments he was given before that!! ) The good news is that he is now totally well, married and he and his wife are expecting a baby in June !! Lyme Disease is only a bad memory now ... He and his wife are both RN's and he is the most sensitive, caring person one could imagine! He said Lyme Disease , in some ways, created him into who he is today and he feels it was a blessing. Please tell Troy that he WILL recover and be who he was and better for his battle. It is so hard, Troy, but you will be ok and you will be a stronger person. You look like you have a wonderful, caring family and when you get the right doctor working with you, your recovery will be fast and complete !
As a co- chair of the Ulster Lyme Support group here in Ulster County NY I personally have found some success with the Stephen Buhner herbal protocol. My older son is on it too and is doing well. The book Stephen Buhner wrote is called "Healing Lyme". I'd be happy to consult with you on this protocol.
Happy Birthday Troy! May this new year bring about a full recovery and freedom from any pain!!! You are in our prayers! Bg

I am so sorry for all that Troy and your family have been going through. I will certainly be keeping you all in my prayers. I read your story in the Valley Press. Both my mother and sister have struggled with lyme disease and have found hope and healing through a naturopatic doctor, Dr. Michael Gazsi located in Danbury, CT. They still have flare ups which he is able to help treat. He is a very nice doctor and has been the only one able to help my sister and mother with their symptoms. http://www.drgazi.com
I'm a Lyme patient who grew up in Unionville. I write for the Global Lyme Alliance (www.globallymealliance.org/blog). Wishing you all the best! Jennifer Crystal
I am so sorry to hear about your son Troy being so sick, and that you have Lyme also. My husband and I both have Lyme, he got deathly ill 9/2001 it took 5 yrs and every penny of our savings trying to find out what was wrong. My fibromyalgia dr in Denver ran a simple infectious blood panel sent the test to IGenix in CA.....none of the big fancy places we went to did that. Head of infectious disease at Colorado University Hospital told us "Colorado DOES NOT have ticks that carry Lyme." Our medical society is so uneducated and will not think outside of the box. Anyway---I was on Google today searching---our 38 yr old son has been diagnosed with MS after spending 2 years and $180,000 going to specialists all over the country. He didn't tell anyone, so we just found out a week ago about all of this. We knew he was sick because of the way he looks but we don't get to see each other often. You need to Google the question "IS THERE FINANCIAL HELP FOR LYME TREATMENT". a whole page comes up. God bless you and your family especially your son.
Please look into this product link below. It saved my friends life from Lyme Disease. He was almost as bad as Troy. Alternative medicane is sometimes worth a try when we run out of answers. Zoe and I have your family and Troy in our thoughts. Zoe has attached your go fund link to her Instagram account and is very concerned for her friend! https://www.resultsrna.com/ultimate-lyme-disease-support-system/
I am very, sorry to hear about your young son's illness. I became aware a year or so ago that tics carry more than one kind of disease after our former church choir director was coping with two types of tic borne illness, eventually having to move away to a place where she would not encounter mold. Her illnesses lowered her resistance to mold, making her sick. I just wanted to share this with you. Also, I asked to be checked for Lyme disease after having an extremely stiff neck and a bruising in too of my foot last summer. Sure enough I tested positive and had to go through two rounds of antibiotics to test negative. We will keep Troy and the family in our thoughts and prayers.
