Many of you have reached out asking how you can help Troy and Kayla during this difficult and unknown medical journey that Troy is currently facing, here is how you can help!  Troy recently lost his job and they have no income or health insurance at this time.   Troy became ill unexpectedly about 6 months ago with sudden weight loss and under the care of his NP he was diagnosed with Gastritis.  After treatment for the Gastritis it appeared he was improving however, while driving home from the lake in June he suffered a heart attack and had to be life flighted from Jasper Hospital  to the Medical Center for cardiac care involving stints in the heart.  After a few days, it appeared he was on his way to a full recovery and was discharged home however, after only a few weeks at home Troy starting experiencing chest pains again so he was brought back to the Medical Center ER.  Right away it was determined that he would require a higher level of care in Houston due to a thrombosis on the aorta identified through a CT Scan.
By the Grace of God, once Troy arrived on July 16 at Memorial Hermann he was assigned to the care of Dr. Estrera ( the best of the best and a true Godsend for Troy and Kayla)  Dr.  Estrera immediately formulated a plan for surgery and explained how rare this thrombosis on the aorta actually was as well as explained the risk associated for Troy.  Well unfortunately before the surgery could be performed, Troy had a set back as he experienced confusion,  erratic speech  resulting in CT Scans that confirmed he had suffered a stroke.   What else can Troy endure at this point! After days of treatment by the neuro surgeon and Dr. Estrera the decision was made to move forward with the surgery to remove the thrombosis on July 25th.  Thankfully after 5 long hours, Dr. Estrera came to tell us that he was successfully able to remove the thrombosis and replace the aorta with a Dacron one however, the end result is the pathology report showed the thrombosis was actually a Sarcoma, Cancer of the Connective Tissue.  This is so RARE that it has only been reported in about 150 patients!
So now we start over again,  there is a lot of unknowns at this point.   Dr. Rios, Oncologist, met with us and we will have to move forward with genealogy testing, additional testing to include pet scans in order to determine the next steps for treatment of the Sarcoma.
Troy is still in Memorial Hermann and Kayla has been by his side since July 16th with the help of  their daughter Holly, Troy's sister Donna and Troy's Aunt Marie and the rest of his family!  Please help them if you can!  Any amount helps!  We appreciate all prayers and are forever grateful! We know this is in God's hands and we serve a loving and faithful God!
