Tristan’s Study Abroad: China
Donation protected
Tristan is a high school freshman studying Mandarin at BHS and is committed to 4 years of it in the International Baccalaureate program. It’s difficult, and he loves it.
Tristan applied earlier this fall for a long-shot scholarship to study aboard in China this summer. It was one of those things we knew wouldn’t happen but we wanted him to try for anyway, and we figured he’d keep trying for over his high school career. When we hit send on the application, he wondered, “What if they say yes?” But we were pretty sure it wouldn’t happen. None of us were expecting a scholarship high enough to make it affordable for us.
We were notified yesterday that Tristan received a 100% Global Navigator Scholarship based on academic merit. (Kid’s got good grades!) All he has to do is buy a plane ticket. He will spend a month in China this summer, learning Mandarin. He is completely elated/ overwhelmed/ shocked/ excited. We are overjoyed.
We wanted to share the happy news and also ask for help. He has time to raise the funds for his ticket and passport, but his school and rowing schedule will keep him from taking a job. He will need your help. Expect to hear more from him as he works to make this a reality. His hard work has him most of the way there already!
