Trenton Fireworks Committee Fund
Donation protected
The Trenton Fireworks Committee is seeking donations to be able to bring back the Fourth of July fireworks to the city of Trenton. Last year the fireworks were suspended due to a lack of funding.
The fireworks were a longstanding tradition in Trenton for as long as anyone can remember, from 2012 to 2015 the show was the beneficiary of additional funding from a local business but the support was not renewed last year.
Trenton City Councilman Bill LeFevre is among those trying to get the word out to local residents and community service organizations that the city is taking donations to bring the fireworks back.
"We've always had a great fireworks display," LeFevre said. "Now we need to raise money to continue the tradition. It's important to celebrate the birth of our nation."
LeFevre said the city's goal is to raise $35,000. LeFevre said he has a few sponsors already but needs many more. Any donation amount is welcome and all donors will be recognized. Donors do not have to be Trenton residents, as many people who came to see the fireworks were from neighboring communities.
LeFevre is also looking for community service organizations to work with the city to help raise funds and for ways to sustain donations beyond 2017. He wants the fireworks to become a yearly tradition again.
Any funds donated over the requested amount will be put aside for any future firework events. If the goal is not met funds will be donated to a local charity.
