Treatment for Rhett

Donation protected
Most people are used to seeing Go Fund Me for medical emergencies or disaster relief situation.  This is both without being either.  Many of you may know, but some may not know that Rhett and I have been battling addiction together in our marriage for the two years we have been married; however, Rhett has been battling with addiction his whole life.

It is said that not everyone who experiences trauma in their life becomes an addict, but every addict has been exposed to great trauma.  Rhett's history with trauma and addiction is at a crisis head and we desperately need help.  We have been walking with different counsellors over the last year, but our current and most trusted counsellor is saying that given current circumstances Rhett is in dire need of a treatment centre to help him work through his addictions and history.

I can't help think that if Rhett was battling some rare cancer and we were asking for money to help send us to a treatment centre in Mexico this would have a lot less shame attached.  The truth is however, this walk has a lot of shame attached to it and it has taken a lot of courage for us to step out and ask for help.   For the most part we have kept our journey over the last two years pretty close to the chest, as addiction has a stigma to it that is hard to overcome.  The truth is, addiction is a disease like any other and stems out of a place of brokenness, hurt, trauma and pain.  These are also traits that are not often talked about or accepted.  This being said we have kept our story quiet and tried to seek help with those who were closest to us.

Our marriage has been under massive strain over the last two years and it has been crisis after crisis.  Rhett knows if this addiction is not addressed he stands to lose the marriage.  He also knows if the addiction is not addressed it could easily claim his life.  He does not want either of these things and has committed to going into treatment.  He has hit rock bottom and is reaching out for help for all the right reasons right now.

God came through at the 11th hour for an answer to a treatment centre and I dropped Rhett off at treatment today.  He is ready to engage 100% in what is offered to him to help turn his life around.  We don't know how long Rhett will need to be in treatment, but we are starting with one month.  The likelihood of further stay is recognized, but right now we are taking this journey a moment at a time, as we don't have a lot of capacity to think beyond just today.

Along side humbly asking for financial help we ask you would pray with us as we battle this out.  It has been a long and hard two years and for Rhett it has been a long and hard life-long journey.  We understand the greater battle and need covering in prayer as the spiritual battle rages on.  We are both depleted in energy, emotions and we are scraping the bottom of the barrel for our faith and trust and placing all we have left on Jesus and where we are being guided right now.  It's been a hard and scary and isolating journey getting Rhett to treatment.

We know we cannot get through this alone, whether it be prayer, support of community or financially.  Anything you can contribute from any or all three of these areas is not taken for granted.   It is important to be aware that Rhett will not have access to his phone or devices with wifi while in treatment.  If you have encouragements you would like to get to him, please message me and I will have them written down and dropped off.
