Treatment for advanced melanoma

Someone very special to us, each in our hearts in our own unique way, has been diagnosed with an advanced stage of a skin cancer called a melanoma.

There have been a number of medical advances for advanced stages of melaoma. Before this new treatment (immunotherapy) was available, survival rates were only 3% but since immunotherapy has been available some studies have shown survival rates of 60%! This treatment is free in some health settings but pretty much all elsewhere, including South Africa, it is not available for free, and under private medical aid only with the top medical aids.  Cost estimates for the treatment itself has been quoted as R120000.00 per month (approx 6800 UK pounds) to R2000000.00 per year (approx 115000 UK pounds).

Charl is a good, caring, lovely, easy-going, creative, fit and funny person. He is self employed working as a product designer but on the side does mountain bike and hiking tours. He loves nature and is super environmentally friendly, but above all, is a true cat lady at heart (please feel free to tease him about this!).
