Travis’s Medical & Travel Expenses for ❤️ Surgery

In March 2018 Travis was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy. This condition causes the outflow of blood to be  obstructed whenever the heartrate increases. This causes Travis to faint, get fatigued easily, have pain in chest, extreme anxiety, and difficulty breathing, all from a simple task such as walking from the livingroom to the bedroom. Because of this illness Travis has not been able to work or enjoy any of the many activities that he wants. 
In January, Travis was admitted into Sanford Hospital with extreme chest and arm pain. After extensive testing we were advised that his obstruction has worsened so we were referred to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN and we visited there the end of February. The doctors at Mayo of course did a bunch more testing and confirmed his condition. With his young age (39) and the fact that medications were not helping, they recommended open heart surgery. The doctor will go through his sternum and into his heart through his aorta where they will remove about a thumb size piece of heart muscle thus eliminating the obstruction.  Recovery will take 2-3 months with full activity achieved by 6 months. We have scheduled surgery at St Mary’s hospital on the Mayo Clinic campus for May 15th. 
We were unable to be approved for Medicaid and although we do have health insurance the out of pocket expenses and travel costs combined with Travis not being able to work has really taken a toll on our family financially. Travis has applied for short term disability but that could take up to 6 months to find out if he is even approved. It is hard for Travis and myself to ask this of our friends and family but we we have come to realize that we need help. We appreciate all the support and positive thoughts. Thank you!
