Girl Scout Trash-A-Thon

Hello, my name is Sherry, our troop treasurer. Our Girl Scout troop is raising money to go on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to hike the Narrows in Zion Canyon National Park with a quick stopover in Disneyland. We’re hoping you will support our trash-a-thon to raise money to fund the trip and help the environment at the same time.

Plastic and cigarette butts are two of the most common ocean contaminates. For every dollar you fund us, we pledge to pick up 1 oz. of plastic litter or cigarette butts. We’ll pick up all the trash we see of course, we’re Girl Scouts! But it’s the plastic and cigarette butts that are the real problem for our lakes, rivers and oceans so that is the only stuff we’ll weigh. Did you know a plastic grocery bag stuffed full holds about 1 lb. of plastic debris? And we’re not just picking up the easy stuff like bottles. We’re digging in the dirt and leaves to get all the pieces that have already started to break down from the sun but will never, ever go away unless someone like us picks it up. That’s a lot of plastic! We’ll make sure to send you photos of our progress. So please pledge what you can and share our campaign with your family and friends if you don’t mind.
