Pine Ridge Service Trip
Donation protected
Next week I return to the Pine Ridge Lakota Reservation. I join the group Re-Member to serve the Lakota by assisting with construction, building & providing beds to people who have never owned a simple bed, delivering firewood... It’s a humbling and uplifting week for me.
The residents there live in poverty that is simply not seen in most of the US. Unemployment is at 88% and the typical family home is a trailer housing several generations- 10 people is not unusual. Outhouses are still common instead of indoor toilets. Fresh food or produce is scarce and expensive so diabetes is epidemic.
But, we don’t hear about these needs.
I was asked once why I can’t just go but not “be so public” about it;
the people are the reason. Change, in the way of real quality of life, cannot come fast enough.
I am not asking for money to fund my trip. That’s all on me. If friends would like to donate, I will use the funds to purchase items to bring to the Rez such as hygiene items, glasses, diabetic supplies... If I am blessed with excess funds, I will order items to ship.
Thanks!
