Torres Twins

As many of our family and friends may already know, my daughter Lashonda and her fiancé Andres are expecting twin boys and things up to this point have not been picture perfect for them. At 16 weeks she was diagnosed with Vasa Previa. This is a condition where the umbilical cord lies between one baby and her cervix. The doctors informed her that any sign of bleeding could indicate that baby’s cord was ruptured, being life threatening to him. On December 21st mom had some bleeding and her and Andres rushed to Alamosa Hospital. There the nurses confirmed that the babies were okay but were worried about preterm labor. The doctor there was honest with them and said if anything were to go wrong they just didn’t have the resources to keep mom alive, let alone two very premature babies. So the very next morning the boys got to go on their very first flight to Denver to be cared for by their MFM doctors. After the first evaluation from them at 24 weeks, they said it was to risky for her to leave the hospital because if anything went wrong they would only have 5-10 minutes to get the boys out and to supply mom with the blood she’ll need. So unfortunately LaShonda and the boys will remain at St. Joseph’s for the remainder of her pregnancy.

It’s hard for me as a mother to watch this young couple deal with all of this (on top of all the other worries they have) and not get to enjoy what most expecting parents get to. (Baby shower, maternity shoot, nesting, setting up nursery, but the HARDEST thing is watching them having to be separated because dad drives home every week to continue to provide for his family).

So with all of this being said I would like to reach out to our family and friends asking for any kind of support you’d like to give, so all MY kids have to worry about is getting my grand babies here strong and healthy. Lucky they did get a registry done before all of this happened so if you don’t want to donate on here you can also look them up on Babies R Us by mom’s first and last name. (LaShonda Espinosa) Thank you in advance, God bless.
