Tornado Relief for the Mateos
Rick and Bernadette Mateos house was destroyed by the tornado last week. The house has been condemned. Rick, Bernadette, and their two kids will be living in a hotel until further notice. I have started a go fund me account in their name because many people have asked how they can help out the Mateos. The funds raised will help offset the cost that their insurance company did not cover. Any donation is much appreciated. Thank you for your time and please pass this along.
To all the donors who have supported us, I wish I could find a way to individually thank you but the website isn't set up so I can message you directly. I've been texting, emailing, and FBing everyone I know and thanking them personally but there are many more that I don't know or have contact info for. We are keeping a list to make sure we personally thank everyone. Until we get around to each and every one of you, please know how touched and humbled we are to receive your generosity. To our SMS family, you guys are the kindest, most sincere group of people we have been a apart of. The entire school from Principal Goldberg to staff members like Teri Speri and her husband Jim, to all the parents and teachers, and classmates who have donated, you all are truly saints. God bless you all for opening your hearts to us. To all the St. Matthews parishioners thank you, thank you, thank you for your support. To all my friends and family that I haven't seen in a long time, thanks for reaching out to me. Sorry, I haven't been in contact lately but please know how much it means to me to see your posts and contributions. I'm indebted to your kindness. To all the anonymous donors and strangers that I've never met, you guys have lifted my spirits up and helped keep my will strong. My family would love to meet you someday so we can say thank you. I cannot express how appreciative I am for all you've done for me and my family. Thank you with all my heart.
Sorry for the delay in thanking everyone for donating! I'm new to this and just figured out how. To everyone that I didn't thank personally via text or FB I want to say THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR THE LOVE AND SUPPORT!!! You guys don't know how much this means to our family. Your donations are helping us get back some sense of normalcy while we transition from home to hotel life over the next 6+ months to rebuild. For those of you that live too far for me to thank in person I will find a way to express my gratitude, that's a promise. For everyone nearby, if there's anything I can do to return the favor please ask. We are blessed to have amazing friends like you close by. And to all those whom I've never met before, you are truly good samaritans sent from above. Thank you all so much!!!
Wow! Thank you all so much for the continued support! We are truly blessed to have good samaritans like you all watch over us! An update to our status, we are adjusting to hotel life. A group of friends have joined together to cook and deliver food at our hotel a few days a week. It’s been wonderful to receive their generosity! Others have offered to help out with laundry too! The kids are ok but obviously affected from being displaced from their home. At least the hotel has an indoor pool. Still haven’t returned to work since we are busy getting the clean up and repair process going. We are working close with our home owners insurance company but, as expected, they are making light of the damage to our home. They even said, “It’s just a fender bender.” Unbelievable. Our truck was totaled and sustained over $13K in repair costs but the insurance company is unwilling to give a fair market value so we are having to fight that front. Those are all just material items that can be repaired. The love and support you all have shown is what’s keeping us moving forward. Thank you for your donations. Please know that it is helping out in so many ways. We thank you soooooo very much!!!
@Katherine Linares. Thank you such much for offering your support! We are still waiting for insurance company to delivers us the bad news regarding cost of repairs but if we can save by using donated supplies that would be so helpful. Not sure if repair costs are all under the contractor's budget or if we can curb some of the costs ourselves. If the situation is doable I would love to reach out to you and work something out. Again, thank you so much for your generosity!
Hello Kim! We appreciate you offering your assistance. We are in a hotel so we have the basics necessities. It's the intangible things that hurt us the most like the kids not having the freedom to play in their yard or not having any personal space in the hotel. It's like being in a prison of uncertainty. What's most sad is not being able to a meal at our kitchen table . I guess meals are our biggest concern. Fast food restaurants are so unhealthy and monotonous. Even our 5 and 8 year olds are tired of them.
