Tori Reade's Multiple Myeloma Fight

Donation protected
I think we all have that one friend, that one person who you can call on to get things done. The one who will always help you, who will be there in a hurry...at your darkest point, when it is most important. For me, for many of us, that person is Tori Reade.
Whether it is the PTO, the Girl Scouts, the kid's sports, or just a mom's night out, Tori always gets things done and done well.

Now Tori needs our help.

On October 3rd Tori was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. Multiple Myeloma is a form of blood cancer that develops in the bone marrow. A common result of Multiple Myeloma is kidney damage, and for Tori, was how this was first identified. When you have some time, please visit The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation site (www.themmrf.org) for more on this disease. The site is very informative.

Tori has been receiving dialysis three days a week to help with her kidneys. In addition to that, she has been receiving cycles of chemotherapy treatments and steroids to attack the cancer.

At the beginning of December, it was determined that her treatment plan had hit a plateau and Tori, on the advice of her team of doctors, has decided to move forward with a stem cell transplant. The first step to that is an Autologous transplant (from herself) that will occur in January. The likely second step to the transplant will be stem cells from a donor - an Allogeneic transplant.

The main reason for this page, is to let you know about Tori's evolving situation and to keep you involved in everything that is going on in order to support Tori and her family. You will receive updates on her medical condition and treatment and find links or other information to provide support.

Also, we are working with Be The Match (bethematch.org) to organize donor drives, where people can come get entered into the registry. In January one was held at Centenary College, which garnered 45+ new registrants. Another drive is planned for February 24th at Czig Meister Brewing Company in Hackettstown. More to follow in March and April - Lake Mohawk and Newton Medial Center.
Drives like these increase the odds for Tori and individuals like her to find a "donor match" for a stem cell transplant. If you can't attend a drive event, you can visit Be The Match to sign up to have a donor kit mailed to you - it's a simple mouth swab.

Lastly, while we are using this page to keep everyone updated, you can also make monetary donations throughout this long process. Tori and Rich will be traveling a lot to and from treatments, hospitals, and doctors, there will be unpredictable medical costs, as well as just grabbing bites to eat in between lengthy appointments.  Knowing Tori as we do, any unused funds will be donated back to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation as well as the Be The Match registry/National Marrow Donor Program.

If you want to do something, but are unsure of what, you can also send them a gift card for lunch after treatment or dunkin donuts or whatever you'd like - regardless, Tori and Rich will certainly appreciate it.  You can email [email redacted] for an address.

Being either near or far, please know that every little bit helps throughout this long process. THANK YOU!
