Tootsie is sick and needs emergency surgery

If anyone know's me they know I don't like asking for help so this isn't easy to do. I just figured it was worth a shot in case there were a couple of people out there who wanted to help a family out during a time when funds are already stretched pretty tight and they had a sudden, unexpected expense pop up that we weren't financially ready for. Especially given the time of year, just having a baby and multiple home renovations going on in the new house, this is not something we saved up for. So, for those of you who don't know, Tootsie is our 11 year old Yorkie. My husband, Eric, got her for me the first year we were married so I wouldn't be alone while he was away on deployment in the Navy. She has been the sweetest little addition to our family and in her younger days before the kids came along, Tootsie was my only child and she used to go literally everywhere with me. Although she's 11, she's been a very healthy, happy dog who is still jumping off and on the couch and barking and chasing my little brother Timmy anytime she sees him (we've never figured why!). Well, this week I noticed some odd swelling on Tootsie's belly, which wound up being mammary gland enlargement. Toots was never spayed before and this happened because her hormones are out of whack and making her think she's pregnant when she isn't. The Vet was concerned and did some blood work to see if she had an infection and to also check her liver function to see if she could go under anesthesia because they recommended she be spayed to avoid her whacked out hormones leading to a pyometra infection (uterus), which can kill them very fast. Yesterday I got the call from the Vet who said the blood work came back and she definitely has an infection, where we don't know for sure. We started her on antibiotics to help in the meantime and she's scheduled for surgery Wednesday morning of this week. They will be doing an emergency spaying, which itself only cost a couple of hundred dollars, but when you add on the extra charge for her being of old age, Sub Q fluids and IV catheter during surgery, medications, anesthesia, etc..and the up-charge of a couple hundred dollars if they get in there and she does have pyometra, which is very likely, this all adds up very fast and came as quite a shocker. As you can imagine having any dog for 11 years, I'm so scared for our little baby as she's a part of our family. Those of you who know Toots, know how tiny and fragile of a dog she is, even though she really is a tough cookie at heart. We've already raised our 6 year old daughter, Shyla, with Toots as her  "big sister" and they've gotten quite close through the years and we were hoping she'd be around a few more years to watch our new baby, Vayda, grow up too. I know dogs unfortunately don't last forever, but I know she still has few good years left in her and we have so much love to still give to her. At only a little over 3 lbs, her just being under anesthesia scares me, let alone thinking about what the surgery is going to entail. We are going to get this surgery for her even if we get no help, but if you find you have a couple extra bucks to donate or know someone who might be looking for a good cause to donate to right now, it would be so appreciated by our family, I can't even put it into words what it would mean. This is all so hard to even think about and really grasp that this all is happening because it's all so sudden. I can't even think about possibly loosing our Tootsie and hope to god she makes it through this surgery and her infection isn't that bad.  She will be going to surgery Wednesday morning at the Women's Humane Society in Bensalem. Thankfully some people on FB told me they do this emergency surgery for way cheaper than most Vets, and it's true, most vets will charge $1500- $2500 for this, so I'm thankful I reached out once about this on FB because that information was a huge help and did alleviate some of the financial stress to lower the cost significantly.  If you have a doggie, hold them close and be good to them; they aren't here forever but while they are here they will love you whole-heartedly. Again, if you can't donate, that's fine, just send your love and positive vibes for a good outcome and recovery, but if you can help- we cannot say thank you enough!
