Hello there!

I am Elizabeth Shaw voice typing to you from beautiful Portland Maine! I am truly in need of an electric wheelchair and  a used vehicle  that I can put it into and I will tell you why. My doctor has wanted me in an electric wheelchair for the past few years because I cannot push a manual wheelchair due to nerve damage in my hands .  I am now looking at needing to live in  the old van or truck with my cat until I can  acquire handicapped or subsidized housing  which there is none in Maine.  They are all five year waiting lists  and I am on  every waiting list in my state . When I was a bit younger I was a ballet dancer with the Maine State ballet and something happened. My skin changed color and texture. We also discovered that in my back and neck I only have 3 discs. The vertebrae are all cracked and I knew I had my back curving forward but I didn't think that was going to be why.

I have spent my entire life both with my work and my personal life caring for others. I fed others I gave others who were homeless blankets and bag lunches when I was in early teen when I was older I worked at the soup kitchen and then I became a nurse and a social worker along with going to medical school. I don't like the feeling of having to be the one taken care of now. But I have no other choice.

I was sent to a team of endocrinologists in Boston where I was a research patient for 13 years and they discovered a defective gene.

Over the years my symptoms became worse and worse. I continued to work in healthcare to supplement my disability check through SSDI until I could no longer work.

I went into a wheelchair a few years ago and I also had undiagnosed horrible B12 deficiency that can cause permanent nerve damage and it did. At this point in time I cannot push a manual wheelchair due to the damage in my hands and I have no feeling in my legs or feet. I cannot walk more than a few steps and I am in need of this electric wheelchair and some sort of used vehicle that it will be able to fit into. I have been a housebound shut in now for quite some time and it doesn't need to be that way but I do not have the kind of money needed for an electric wheelchair and the used vehicle that the chair would fit in. As I said I am on SSDI and I make $943 per month. I have been putting $20 a month away to help offset the cost of at least the chair. It doesn't add up to much and I still am full of life and laughter and want to get out and go grocery shopping and go to the local fair for a candy apple and to play some games! I just need to be able to get out there. It's not for lack of trying or wanting. My apologies that I didn't gussie up for my photo but that's who I really am. My apologies also for any typographical errors but voice typing isn't the easiest thing to do and get correct. I have proof read this three times and I am hoping that there are no mistakes though one can slip by me.
