Toni’s daughter Aliyah just turned 6, and for her birthday she is getting a makeover - a cellular makeover! With a donation from little brother Elijah, Aliyah had a bone marrow transplant this summer to replace her sickle cell anemia with healthy functioning cells - forever. They spent 7 weeks in the hospital and are now in the one year recovery period.
During this time of recovery, Aliyah can only leave the house under strict conditions, because her risk of infection is high. No movies, no play dates, no school, no playgrounds. When Aliyah travels, she can only travel in private cars. In NYC, this means lots of gas and parking expenses. One parent needs to stay home with her and they’ve had to hire a babysitter for Elijah.
Well, the list of expenses goes on and on, and, needless to say, this has put a heavy financial burden on the family. We adore Toni, and her super-cute children! We've had the pleasure of getting to know them whenever they accompany mom to work and end up randomly walking into our offices. At those moments, we gladly take a little time out of our days to say hi and play a little game, whether it be coloring, drawing, peek-a-boo, whatever. They've brought us joy, and now we want to give back.
And, if you know Toni as we do, you know that she is not the type to ask for money. So, we did it for her. Now, we hope that you will join us in gifting Toni and her family a lifeline in their time of need. No family should have to go through this experience alone. We hope that this gift will help her family feel like they have someone to hold them up when they are down, that they can hold on to hope whenever they have doubt, and to know that there is someone to help whenever they are in need.
