Toni's Double Lung Transplant Fund

Donación protegida
5 years ago my mom was diagnosed with Lung Cancer as well as Idiopathic Pulomonary Fibroses. Because of the IPF (Idiopathic Pulomonary Fibrosis) my mother was given a life expectancy of only 5 years. She underwent a major surgery that removed the lower lobe of her lung, to try to rid herself of the cancer. She also went through Chemo therapy. She was told the only thing that could save her life would be a lung transplant. She was denied by UCSF to get on the transplant list because #1 she was not 5 years cancer free and #2 because of the type of lung cancer that she had. Against all odds this year in September 2017 Stanford University  Medical Center decided to take a chance on my mom and they listed her on the transplant list. In October 2017 she was proclaimed 5 years Cancer Free. However, she was still living with a terminal illness the IPF (Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis). After 5 years of living with this disease her quality of life was not great. She was on 9 liters of oxygen 24/7. She was unable to go places and do things with her family like she used to, including being unable to attend her first granddaughters high school graduation. There were many moments in her life where she was very uncomfortable and at times felt as if she just wanted to give up. But, my mom is a fighter and realized that she had a lot to live for. In December 2017 she finally got the call Stanford had found her a doner. She rushed down to the hospital and underwent a double lung transplant. The transplant was successful and my mom now has new lungs. However, the recovery is an ongoing uphill battle. She has essentially traded one lifestyle for a new one. One where she has to be on many many different very expensive anti-rejection medications so that her body wont reject the new lungs, for the rest of her life. Some of these medications cause all kinds of new problems, so she will need to take other medications to counteract those problems. Also, she has been required to relocate to Palo Alto, California for the next 3 months to be close to Stanford Medical Center(a very expensive part of the bay area) so that her surgeons can continue to monitor her progress.  All in All my mom is just very greatful to be alive and able to see all of her grandchildren grow up. I am asking anyone who can to donate to help pay for her recovery expenses as she is not able to work at this time and now has a lot of medical expenses to deal with.
