Hi, my name is Tonia Winer.
Learning how to live to my greatest potential has been a long and bumpy road for me. I knew all the things that I could do, but it took me a long time for me to really determine what was my true passion. I am a Voice Over Artist and even though no one really knows this yet, I believe in myself to continue this journey.
I have long relied on my voice in my work, having been employed in the telephone customer service industry for the last 20 years. While working in the airline, tea, and insurance industries have taught me a lot about myself as an individual and I have met some amazing people who I will always call my friends, it hasn’t been rewarding. The times when I was able to engage, to educate, or to comfort a customer have been, but I could not exercise my own values, always having to play by the company’s rules. In voice over, while I am playing a role of the specific script I’m reading, I’m bringing my own individuality to it. My own interpretation, thoughts, and emotions to the work. Voice over, or VO, is not just about reading out loud, it’s about who I am as an individual and what I can bring to the work. It is probably the most challenging work I’ve ever undertaken, and I love it!
You may have heard VO used in TV commercials and movie trailers, however, VO’s reach goes far further. From that e-learning tutorial, you used to learn a new gadget to the phone prompts you hear when you call a business. Or from a sales video at a car dealership listing the new features of the latest model to a guided tour through the galleries of a museum. Even the most used voices from Siri, Cortana, or Alexa, or the Audible book on your devices.
Each of these works were voiced by actors that were hired based on the strength of their demo. A demo is short recording showcasing an actor’s unique voice and range while simultaneously providing a sample of readings from commercials, animation, narration, or Corporate e-Learning. Prospective clients listen to dozens of demos to find the voice that would pair best with their projects.
As such, a demo should be produced by a professional studio because it essentially is your calling card. Even with an amazing talent, if you have a horribly produced demo, it’s the equivalent of showing up for a job interview in a t-shirt and flip-flops. In this competitive industry, every edge is needed to separate yourself out of the crowd in the eyes of prospective clients.
This is the reason why I created this GoFundMe campaign. Use of a professional recording studio to record a demo is not cheap, but it is necessary so I can begin to build my brand within the Voice Over Industry. I believe in myself and I hope you believe in me too because I plan on living my potential and with your help, I can take charge of my career and achieve amazing things.
Next steps:
•To become a successful Voice Over Artist, with my demo, I can properly build my brand for my business. My coaching and training will never really end, but building my brand will help me properly market myself.
•Properly marketing my demo and my brand through my voice over website will help me obtain enough work to achieve my first financial goals which are to pay off outstanding debt and create an emergency fund for me and my family.
•With the continuation of coaching, successful marketing, and building a successful voice over business I know that eventually, I will be able to leave my day job and be a full-time Voice Over Artist.

Reader’s Theatre Performance of Disgraced: A Play by Ayad Akhtar where I play Jory, a successful corporate lawyer. While this wasn't a full stage production, it was still a challenging and rewarding opportunity. I will have another performance of it on Thursday, Nov.16 at 1:30 PM, at Middlesex Community College, MILE (Middlesex Institute for Lifelong Education), if you wish to see my voice talents in person.
