Tom's Road to Recovery

Donation protected

On Sunday, November 6th, 2016 Tom Cocagne was in a serious accident, which changed his life for good.
He was rear ended while sitting at a stop light on his motorcycle. The car hit him from behind traveling 30-35 MPH, pushing him into the vehicle in front of him. 4 cars total were involved, Tom was ejected from his bike, throwing him onto the vehicle in front of him, where he then bounced to the ground beside.  All vehicles were damaged but Tom took the brunt of the initial hit.
While EMS, Police, and wittness's saw Tom lying there, no one knew if Tom was going to make it. He then became consious to speak, but was very confused and could not move his arms or anything from his waist down.
Tom was transferred to UC ICU where the team began to evaluate his injuries: Concusion, Gash in head, Broken Ribs, Spinal Injury, and a collapsed lung, all resulting in no feeling in his hands or anything from his rib cage down.
All the doctors and nurses really could say was that all of the injuries were "severe".
48 hours after the accident a surgery was scheduled. The doctor replaced the C5/C6 disc with a steel plate. After several hours of surgery, the doctor spoke to the family, but could not tell us that Tom would ever walk again or ever do all of the day to day functions that a human does. Shortly after, Tom did have light feeling in his legs to touch, more like sensations than really feeling the touch.
10 days later he was then transferred to Drake Rehabilitation in Cincinnati, OH. The staff there was nothing but Excellent and Encouraging for 8 weeks.
After consulting with doctors and therapist, Tom is transferring to Frazier Rehabilitation in Louisville, KY, where he and his wife, Nancy, will set up temporary housing for the next 3 to 4 months. Frazier is Tom's new "Hope".
While insurance has paid their portion, we now have all of the out of pocket cost to keep up with that continue to grow very fast, daily. There is a very long road ahead but it is a road that Tom and the family are ready to take on. Any help or support that anyone can offer or donate is greatly appriciated.
Thank you so much for taking the time to hear Tom's story and thank you for continued support and prayers.
