On Friday, April the 5th, 2019, evening time about 3 hours after feeding, Tommy threw up all the contents of his stomach to the point of dry heaving, then continued on doing whatever he was doing before hand. Typically a dog throwing up is not all that much to worry about, " TYPICALLY ". The next day, now being Saturday, April the 6th. When I took Tommy for a morning walk he was not walking with much energy and or excitement like usual. Upon finishing the walk and after settling down for an hour or so., Tommy has a bite to eat, only slightly less than normal. At this point i'm not hugely concerned. It's later than night that I hear Tommy heaving again that real worry starts setting in. I turn around and go over to where Tommy is, this being about 8pm  Saturday night and see he is in the process of throwing up a deep yellow color bile. I clean it up, give Tommy some water and try to comfort him. Slightly later I offer Tommy some of his food but he turns his head away with complete disinterest. Next I start to look up on google what these symptoms could mean and come to find out this yellow bile is a fluid, produced by the liver that aids the digestion of lipids in the small intestine. It's now late, raining and I have no imaginable way of getting from Ucluelet to Nanaimo at this hour. I'll comfort Tommy some more, fall asleep and see how he is in the morning. It's now Sunday morning, April the 7th. Upon waking up and expecting Tommy to have eaten some of the food during the night that I had left out for him the night before, the dish was untouched. Now normally in life when one gets sick or their pet is feeling under the weather you monitor for maybe a day, possibly two before pulling the pin and naming what is happening as an emergency. This is obviously the mind set I was in... not being able to imagine my Friend here being in serious danger.  A short time later. I'd say it's now about 10:30 am Sunday morning. I manage to get Tommy to drink some water. Maybe 15 minutes later Tommy is throwing up again, this time just a puddle of bubbly water, no color. I step out and go for a quick walk to my friend Laurier's and Sam's to process what is happening. I return no more than 15 minutes later to find Tommy is in a puddle of darker than before yellow bile. Right away I call my close friend at the Humaine Society in the Yukon to discuss these symptoms, she tells me it's " PARVO " and that my beautiful boy Tommy is dying. Parvo being one of the most deadly viruses a canine can pick up and it being my year and a half old puppy i'm dealing with i'm now on a full throttle mission to get my Tommy to the " Central Island Veterinary Emergency Hospital " in Nanaimo. A drive of 171km's. This is the instant moment I declared what was happening as a full on emergency. My mind when from worry to instantly being scared for my best friend.

This is when I quickly pack all my belongings along with Tommy's tell my friend's Laureir and Sam I need to rush Tommy to the Veterinarian Hospital. I have no idea how i'm to get Tommy to the vet as i have no vehicle, my friends van is in no kind of road condition and he is the only person I knew in Ucluelet at the time. I start making phone calls to every vet, spca and animal advocate I can think of. While I am on the phone and Facebook trying to set up a ride to Nanaimo with Tommy I decide we need to start walking to a place we can hitchhike from.  At this point it's now about 2:30pm Sunday, April the 7th. I end up getting picked up by a fellow going only 8km down the road to the turn off for Port Alberni which eventually turns into the road to Nanaimo. Upon getting dropped off Tommy is losing energy and muscle reaction. I have to pick him up to get him out of the vehicle. It's about 3pm Sunday now, Tommy and I spend about 7 hours on the side of the road, no one will pick us up. I give water and each time within 30 minutes he is throwing it up along with yellow bile. I guess you could say I was in a state of composed panic. Knowing how severe Tommy's situation was along with needing to stay calm to deal with the situation, only there is nearly nothing I can do except hope someone will be going straight to Nanaimo and pick us up and / or hope the phone calls and Alert I posted on Tofino rideshare will pay off. It's now about 11:01 pm Sunday night and I receive a text from a Lady saying she will drive from Coombs ( a 2 hour drive away ), pick us up and drive us to Nanaimo. So now around 1:15 am Monday morning she shows up nothing short of an angel who essentially started the process of saving Tommy's life. This Lady I will NEVER forget ! We arrive at the " Central Island Veterinary Emergency Hospital ".

!!! Financial Situation at bottom of page !!!

Tommy is a year and a half old Belgian Sheppard x German Sheppard. When I first went to meet the puppy litter Tommy was apart of, I knelt down in the corner of a 10 ' by 10 ' foot room where him and a few of his brothers were set for viewing, waited about 15 minutes and this little guy came up and licked me in the face. The breeder said " that pup likes you ". That was that. Six days later I went back and picked him up for the first time. Instantly life changed. For the past 15 months we have spent close to every minute together, morning, noon, evening and night. Most mornings he is there at my side no more than 3 feet away. Once he knows I have started to wake up there is no need for the snooze button, he makes sure of that. He's like a child in love with the world, demanding we start the day at once ( as many pet owners know ).

Tommy and I have traveled to every Province / Territory together except three, those three being N.W.T. , Nunavut and Newfoundland and Labrador. Some day I would like to visit these three places left on the Canadian map, a journey I would like to complete with my best friend by my side.

This past fall leading into the winter of 2018/2019, We took a trip up to Dawson City, Yukon. l would have to say this is the place Tommy was the happiest, me as well. Heavy wilderness, mountains and wild animals most only see on nature shows. The intense cold and winter elements putting Tommy's fur coat to the test proved he was meant to live up North.
Ever since this experience, my goal has been to build a simple life in the Yukon. Heavily reasoned with giving Tommy a life he would love. While at the " Central Island Veterinary Emergency Hospital ", I gave my Father a call. One of the thing's I mention was how much I want to settle in the Yukon ( something my Father knows deeply ) followed by an explanation on how much Tommy was suppose to be apart of this and still can with the Parvo treatment and hospitalization needed.

For those that can help words cant express my appreciation, whether you can or not please share this with who ever you feel comfortable with doing so. Also if you know of any community / networking / animal related groups / pages on facebook please share on them to help this work for Tommy.

Thank you, Zachariah.

 Tommy not far behind,

Here's a few pictures of the beautiful creature I am asking you to help me save...

Winter hits, the freezing temperatures create a frost like hue over Tommy's fur...

A few videos...

This is the first payment of $790.34 made upon arrival to start diagnostics and treatment.

This is the second payment of $2,500.00 made after tests came in that diagnosed Tommy with having ParvoVirus.

             !!!   UPDATE: $ 1,515.00 IS NOW THE NEW OUTSTANDING, NOT $2,600.00  !!!
This $264.21 is how much the vet bill has surpassed the first two payments.
$3,290.34 has been paid so far, now $264.21 plus the High Estimate of $2,795.10 needs to be paid to continue the treatment Tommy needs to have a good chance at survival. Who ever has had extensive vet bills should understand exactly whats going on here.

 !!!   UPDATE: $ 2,600.00 IS NOW THE NEW OUTSTANDING, NOT $3,059.33   !!!

This is the low $1,744.05 that needs to be paid today Thursday, April the 11th as a down payment to continue treatment and hospitalization. The $2,795.10 high estimate that is extremely likely to exceed depending on the condition Tommy is in after these next few days that these price numbers are covering. I'm trying my best to help you understand how vet bills work for those who have never been to the vet. Sorry for any confusion. You can call " Central Island Veterinary Emergency Hospital " in Nanaimo and speak with the Doctors there to clear up any confusion you may have.
                                          !!!   UPDATE: $ 1,515.00 IS NOW THE NEW OUTSTANDING, NOT $2,600.00   !!!

The current outstanding balance is $264.21  for treatment already conducted. Tests came in yesterday Wednesday, April the 10th and Tommy needs to continue treatment for the next 3 days minimum with a down payment of $1,744.05 needed by 3pm today Thursday, April the 11th. This low estimate is needed to continue needed treatment and hospitalization. This low estimate is highly expected to rise to about $3,059.33 which will need to be paid upon Tommy's release. This is if things go well and more treatment is not needed after the next 4-5 days.

The current outstanding balance is $1,515.00) and on top of that Tommy needs a minimum of three more days of isolated hospitalization. He is not eating and it has been 5 days now, he is stabilizing, holding down liquids and his white blood cells are getting better but to continue the VERY NEEDED treatment to keep him alive and hopefully ensure a full recovery a down payment of $1,744.05 is needed by today at around 3pm ( the doctors are hopeful and may allow a slight variance regarding time of the down payment but within the next 4 days ESPECIALLY before he is allowed to walk out of the hospital with me a payment of at least $3,059.33 will need to be made. The papers I have posted just above this text will state this but are a bit hard to understand, This is why I encourage you to give the Veterinary Hospital a phone call. The information to contact them is directly below this text.
