Tommy Hanian Cancer Recovery Fund

I'm launching this campaign to assist in Tommy Hanian's fight to overcome his recently diagnosed Papillary Thyroid Cancer (stage T3 that has spread to the lymph nodes.) Tommy 26, husband to Mariah and new father to Quinn, was diagnosed with his cancer in December and surgery for a total thyroidectomy was preformed on January 10th.

Now we are rallying all of our family, friends, and acquaintance for help with medical and household expenses. Tommy is no longer physically able to work and not sure when that will be again.  The surgery has caused some nerve damage not only to his vocal cords but also to the nerves that are connected to his right arm making it difficult to move the arm.  As a self employed builder his outlook is unsure, especially if the nerve damage is permanent he will no longer be able to continue as a builder.  Tommy joined the Marines when he was 19 and recently completed his 6 year contract and was talking with a recruiter to join the Air force special forces,  with the cancer he was told that will not be an option due to the maintenance medication that will be required for the rest of his life.

Tommy is seeing a specialist in Iowa City and there has already been several trips and many more to come for follow up visits.  his prognosis is good but the stress of not knowing how they will continue to take care of all the expenses without his income while still trying to manage the disease and the side effects is overwhelming the young couple. The funds will be used to cover the $8,000 out of pocket insurance expense as well travel expenses, housing, and any additional medical and miscellaneous expenses.
