Tom Thrall Medical Fund

Tom Thrall suffered his 2nd Stroke in 7 months and has lost cognitive function for the most simple things. Because he can’t go back to work, he will be terminated and lose his health insurance. He used all of his FMLA time with his first Stroke.

Right now Tom has to have 24/7 care because he can’t remember anything past 2 minutes, which makes him a danger to himself if he lives alone.

The good news is, I’ve found a Stroke and Brain Injury Rehabilitation facility which can work with him for 30-90 days, has 30 years experience working with patients like Tom, and a miraculous recovery rate. We are talking about successes such as Stroke victims being in a wheelchair and then healing enough to not need it anymore and living a very successful, optimum life to the point you’d barely notice they had a brain injury at all.

The bad news is, we were hopeful his health insurance at work would cover the Rehab but it was turned down so he can’t go unless we fund it ourselves. I am desperately looking for a way to get him there, started a Facebook donation page, and now gofundme.

Update: August 8th, 2019. I was able to get Tom to the Stroke Rehab Facility. They were able to charge Tom's current insurance on an OutPatient basis, but his room and board until the end of August will be $600 per day, $13,800 total. It's possible that a lien will go on his house for this, plus other medical bills which he let lapse from the first stroke....so a total of about $15k-20k at this point.

Tom loses all health insurance from work on August 31st 2019. Then I’ll have to pay for COBRA so he can get the help he needs. I’ll look for Affordable Care Act Insurance as well, and the facility is doing its best to do some kind of work around so he can get the help he needs.

Update: August 12th, 2019: I was able to get insurance for Tom through the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). It will start on Sept. 1, so there isn't any lapse in coverage. So he'll be able to get the full 90 days of treatment if rehab gets it approved through his insurance. This is fantastic news financially for Tom, but the other bills are still due and are where he needs the most help.

In addition, Tom’s bills are mounting. He almost lost his house to foreclosure which would have happened in about 3 weeks, if I hadn’t stepped in and got it paid for him. He is thousands of dollars in debt for credit cards, taxes, etc., because he simply didn’t have the capacity to figure out how to pay his bills because of the first stroke.

All funds will go to his medical bills first, with the highest priority being the brain injury rehab facility. I can figure out something for his bills, but his health is the # 1 priority and then his finances.

Tom was scheduled to head to the rehab facility on August 8th. (DONE) So this is an urgent plea for help. He needs funding like yesterday. (NOT DONE)

Thank you for all your help. I just can’t really do this all alone.
