Tom Mazón Memorial Fund

Tom Mazón was a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, neighbor, and godson. He was a capable fix-it man, an entrepreneur, an explosives tech, auto mechanic, and global adventurer.
Whether he was working for himself, or doing a job he was hired to do, Tom always worked hard and cared for his customers. He also volunteered in his church and his community. He was passionate about helping children of all ages, recognizing that every child had the right to a good life.
You could trust Tom to be out on Elephant Butte Lake, in the hot sun on the 3rd of July, running cables for the fireworks displays that most people only sat and enjoyed. You could find him helping game wardens move injured wildlife from the road, and towing scientists out of the Sevilleta when their SUV's broke down.
He met his wife, Susi, in Peru, and said he loved her so much they could not get by with only one wedding. They first married in Lima, and then in the Sacred Valley of the Inca. Then they came to the US and got married in Reno. They have lived in Socorro, NM for 11 years. They saw much of the US and the world together. He and Susi also taught catechism together, and often spoke of the children and families they worked with.
Less known to his friends, Tom also fought a lifelong battle with autoimmune and allergic conditions that complicated his diabetes. Tom had strong values and high expectations of himself. His inability to meet those expectations was intolerable to no one more than to Tom. In the past year alone, Tom went through three difficult rounds of treatment. On June 10, 2018, his body succumbed. His spirit will never surrender.
This memorial seeks funds to support outstanding medical bills and other costs associated with Tom's final battle. As of this writing, we don't know the price tag of his treatment. We are certain it exceeds what we are requesting above. We will update the page with new information as it arrives.
Contributions will go directly to Susi Mazón to help address the expenses associated with his medical bills and his funeral services. All assistance is appreciated.
