Meet Tom and his 13 year old son Jeremy. Tom is a wonderful man who has helped so many. Now he needs help and he needs help fast and desperately. Tom is my best bud/friend and he is dying of brain/lung cancer. He was diagnosed in July of this year (2016) The doctors gave him under a year to live. Tom has done radiation and is doing chemo every 3weeks. Doctors want to start him on a new drug called Opdivo(Nivolumab) which has just recently been approved in canada but is not covered by BC medical or his private insurance Great West Life. SHAME ON THEM!!! Opdivo is a cancer medicine that works with the immune system to interfere with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. This drug in most cases puts the cancer into remission. Tom's only Christmas wish is to get this treatment so he can continue to be a wonderful Dad to his son Jeremy. Opdivo is a medicine that costs about $4500-$5000 every 2 weeks. He simply can't afford this.
To make matters worse Tom's son Jeremy's grandma has recently been diagnosed with bladder cancer also. This family is struggling in every way imaginable.
Tom is a proud man but he has finally come to the realization that he can't do it on his own anymore.
i have set the goal for $50,000 for different reasons. 1st for the medicine Opdivo. 2nd Tom's son needs counselling. He doesn't know how to deal with his dad dying and now his grandma. 3rd Living expenses. Tom is on a limited budget and is obviously not able to work. 4th This is down the road. Funeral expenses. And 5th a trust fund for Tom's son Jeremy.
Can you find it in your heart to help? It's the season to give. Any amount helps. I watch Tom struggle everyday and it kills me inside, He shakes, is always nauseated, fatigued and his memory is bad. All's I want for him is to have a fair and fighting chance. He needs the IV medicine now. Otherwise he will be dead within months.
