Tissue, my 4 and 1/2 years old Maltese dog got bruises on her belly and was diagnosed ITP ( Immune-Mediated Thrombocytopenia ) when she was 2 years old from over vaccination.
ITP causes bruises along with bleeding and the dog's immune system attacks and destroys its own platelets.
Due to low platelets bleeding we had many days at the ICU and ongoing monthly bloodwork with treatments left us with a total of $16,000 in vet bills. I am currently out of work and having a very difficult time to pay the vet bills.
Her 4th relapse just happened with her teeth infection and her platelets are critically low. We couldn’t use antibiotic after pulling her tooth out a month ago because antibiotic can make her platelets count dramatically lower. Her little body has been fighting infections without antibiotics and her many loose teeth with gum infection needs to be treated.
This financial help will cover for Tissue's infection and dental surgery to bring platelets number back to normal level. She depends on Atopica 3 times a day and compounded Azathioprine (Chemo grade immune suppressant) for platelets count and the cost of med and bloodwork is over $650 a month.
When platelets count gets stabilized next option would be spleen removal surgery to give her the new hope for life without having continuous relapses.
There are not many vets that have knowlege on Immune disease and we've seen 3 different vets and a specialist to hope for Tissue's full recovery.
We would appreciate any help, thoughts and prayers.
