Tir na nOg Orphanage Documentary

Donation protected
Country Kerry National School teacher Louise Quill founded the Tir Na nOg Orphanage for orphaned and abandoned children in Tanzania in 2007 when she was just 23 years old!

Louise realised from a volunteer period working in a Tanzanian orphanage that the 2000 euro she had raised did not reach the children, but lined the pockets of a CEO! This set her on a path to raise funds and set up her own Orphange, Kindergarten and later National school where there were no CEO’s or people on the paroll. Where children who are malnourished, suffering with malaria, lice, scabies, a multitude of diseases and some with HIV and all traumatised, can be cared for, fed and educated.

An example of one of many children is Miriam. She was one of the first children to arrive in 2007, at just 5 years old suffering with AIDS. Her entire family had died of the disease. Despite being told that her chances of survival were poor Louise persisted with nourishing and medicating her. Miriam is now 16 years old and her disease is managed by regular medication.

To the present day. Despite episodes of poor health Louise managed to drive the completion of a new school where her orphans and local children can be educated. They have purchased their own farm where they grow fresh food for the children. Louise now has 50 children living permanently in the orphanage assisted by  many amazing volunteers.  The older children  attend secondary school at a cost of 1000 euro per year.  Neither Louise or any other the other volunteers  receive a salary.

Her present goal is to build a new orphanage. The current rented building is old and in need of constant repair which is draining funds. The children must share beds and have just one shower and toilet between them! She has a site, drawn plans and obtained planning permission but needs considerable funds to complete the task.

It is my intention to document Louise’s journey through film and demonstrate just how this small endeavour has changed the lives of countless helpless children. I hope to meet Louise in Tanzania next Easter to complete the Tanzanian section of the film. It’s my hope that the finished Documentary will be screened on Television and film festivals, both Nationally and Internationally so highlighting the children's plight and help Louise raise those needed funds. I would hope to have the premier screened at next years Kerry Film Festival.

For those of you who don’t know me, I have been involved in Directing and Director of Photography on many short films and projects, some winning national and international awards. I am financing most of this venture myself and am currently investing in appropriate film equipment for the trip. For techie's we will be filming on my Red Epic Dragon with Zeiss Cinema lenses and Panasonic GH5.  Drone  shots with a Mavic 2 pro.

However, I do need extra monies to pay for draconian Tanzanian film and drone licenses (over 2000 euro) and at least one sound recordist film crew to assist me in Tanzania and if the budget stretches a camera assistant. I estimate that the total will be in the region of 6000 euro. Any residual funds will be donated directly to the orphanage.

Please note that when making a donation the page suggests a level of tip in addition to your payment. this is purely optional. You can write in a zero. The site deducts a small percentage of total money raised when funds are withdrawn.
