Dear Family and Friends,
Most of you know that just before Thanksgiving 2016, I juggled a career of journalism, teaching, mentoring and learning for more than 30 years. However, a stroke has turned my world upside down.
Sadly, I no longer have the stamina to multitask.. My primary focus must be on my recovery, which consists of speech therapy and the development of communication and language tools to bypass the damaged portions of my brain. My doctors tell me that I must slow the pace of my life to allow my brain to realign.
This situation brings with it financial challenges. It creates additional stresses as I struggle to cover my basic needs and mounting medical expenses. It has now reached the point that I have to apply for disability benefits, realizing that it will take some time for approval and subsequent payouts. This process may take up to a year and approval is certainly not guaranteed.
Family and friends have encouraged me as I have made significant recovery strides. I am so thankful to be among loving and caring people. In order to continue reaching my health goals, I am humbly seeking financial assistance during this stormy season as I walk this slow journey and one day hope to run to the finish line of recovery.
