My name is Lyn Roberts and I have Stage 4 Ovarian cancer.
I was 60 years old when I was diagnosed in August 2014; like many women I was totally unaware of the symptoms. During my first round of Chemotherapy I wanted to make as many women as possible aware of the symptoms; now I am about to embark on my second round of Chemotherapy, the Time for Teal fundraising project is here.
Time for Teal is a combination of my desire to raise money for research and awareness of Ovarian Cancer and my love of all things knitting and crochet.
I am raising funds to buy the wool, have it specially dyed, then create kits which can be sold in local wool shops all over the country. In order to get the best prices, we need to buy significant quantities. If we can purchase the wool in March, it can be dyed and packed ready for a big project launch in April, ready for World Ovarian Cancer Day on 8th May. Each pack will contain a flyer with the symptoms clearly listed.
Time for Teal consists of 1 crochet pattern and 2 knitting patterns which can be created in our specially dyed fabulous yarns. The proceeds of the sale of this yarn and the patterns will go to Target Ovarian Cancer who are the leading UK charity who work to improve early diagnosis, fund lifesaving research and provide much needed support to women with Ovarian Cancer
The more women we reach with the information about symptoms the more women can be saved . When a woman is diagnosed at the earliest stage, her chance of surviving ovarian cancer for five years or more doubles from just 46 per cent to more than 90 per cent. With your support, we can get more women diagnosed sooner and save lives.
