In 2013 at just 44, Julie was diagnosed with breast cancer. With her family and friends beside her, she went through the pain trauma of chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy. She thought that was it. Then in the summer of 2015, she found a number of new lumps. The doctor confirmed the news she was dreading - the cancer was back. But there was worse news, the cancer had spread to her liver, she had secondary breast cancer which is incurable.
Since then she has had a number of treatments including 4 types of chemotherapy for c 18 months and specialist liver treatment (SIRT) which we fund raised for previously as this is not available on the nhs. Whilst SIRT was successful and eliminated many of the liver tumours, the cancer did not stop growing. Since then the cancer has mutated and spread to her lungs and bones. We are looking for further treatments and in particular immunotherapy - dendritic cell treatment which increases the ability of your immune cells to fight back against the cancer.
Julie's family and friends are taking on various challenges to raise funds towards this, with the aim to raise £10,000 initially and to provide Julie and her family more precious years together.
