BIOGRAPHY AND VISION

NAME: SARAH JERE

BIRTH DATE: 20TH JANUARY 1995

NATIONALITY: ZAMBIA

AGE: 22

RELIGION: CHRISTIAN

My name is Sarah Jere, I was born in Livingstone in the Southern Province of Zambia. I am the last born in a family of 10 although it’s fair to say that I am a twin.  My father pastors a church in Livingstone.  Altogether, we were a family of 11 but we lost one of my sisters, Juliet Jere, to an illness in August, 2014.  I started School in 2001 and completed my high school in 2013. I have a full grade 12 certificate and I am now ready to further my education at Lake Superior College in Duluth, MN with the help of many friends there who are willing to provide room and board, academic support and friendship during my school years.  However, $10,500 in tuition is required in order to attend the first year.  This is a serious challenge in the Zambian economy. Therefore, I am asking for your help in raising the initial tuition costs that will enable me to gain the ability to support myself through work as a CNA and LPN while completing the rest of my schooling.

My dream is to become a registered nurse with a special interest in improving the pre and post natal health of pregnant women and newborns. I chose this career because I have a strong desire to help people. I have always admired the work that nurses do and desire to do my part to help relieve suffering, serve as a role model to others while encouraging them to pursue medical education as there is a limited number of health care professionals in my country.  At the peak of my career, I want to work and teach in as many places as I can, especially rural areas in Zambia that have no access to proper treatment. I believe that with modern, practical skills I can be influential in training others to help many people, particularly women and children, and help save many lives. Many women and children here have been lost due to poorly trained professionals assisting in delivery.  I want to help make improvements in this area over the course of my career.

To this end, I am asking for any help you are able to offer in order to meet the initial tuition amount to help cover the first year of my education with my sincere pledge to fully devote myself to making my dream come true.  With your gracious assistance, together, we can help improve the lives of many people who are helpless in their need for professional medical care.  Please give what you can and I will pay it forward to as many others as God enables me.  Thank you in advance for your generous consideration of this important request.

Kay and I are continuing to pursue the goal of raising the necessary funds required for Sarah to complete her RN degree here in Duluth. We are asking for 100 people to share $100.00 dollars toward the basic financial goal. Lake Superior College (LSC) requires foreign students to have an initial amount of $10,500.00 at their disposal to pay for tuition, books, health insurance, fees and other basic needs related to school such as transportation, supplies, etc. Foreign students are not allowed to work during their first year of schooling. Sarah will be living with one of our Pastors and his wife in Duluth while attending school. Kay and I and several others will provide for her basic needs until she can begin working as a CNA. We will continue helping to sustain her as she earns her way through college. She can finish her degree in about 3 years. Her plans are to return to Zambia to help elevate the level of care provided in maternal nursing. With an American medical education, she will be a leader in developing improved standards of care and educating others. There is the potential for her to save perhaps thousands of lives which are currently being lost due to a lack of quality medical care for women and newborns. Please help if you can, any amount is appreciated and will be put to good use. I know we can get this done and we are continuing to pray for a successful conclusion to this appeal. Sarah is working in Zambia and saving what she can. She is strongly committed to achieving her goal of working as an RN to help save the lives of many in great need where advanced knowledge is lacking and no care is available, with many lives at risk. Sarah needs our help to help her help others. What an opportunity we have to do something good, with lasting benefits for many years to come, and the potential to save thousands of lives with a simple one-time donation to a critically important cause. Thank you in advance for your consideration in this matter, Tim and Kay Turk

We are raising these funds to provide Sarah with money to cover tuition, books and health insurance through her first year of nursing school. After the first year she is allowed to work as a CNA and can support herself. Her room and board for the first year have been privately arranged for her already. She will attend Lake Superior College. They require foreign students to have $10,500 available fo the first year when she is not allowed to work. After the first year she can begin working as a nursing assistant and will be able to earn her way through the rest of her school with some private help provided. Your donation will make it possible for her to start school in Duluth in January, 2018. When she completes her RN degree she plans to return to Zambia and work in public health with women and children. Please read her biography and help out as you are able. Together we can make this happen and improve or save many lives and place a well educated, young nurse in a place where adequate health care is not always available and help improve the quality of care delivered. Thank you in advance for your consideration in this manner. Tim
