Tiffany's Craniopharyngioma Battle

Donation protected
Tiffany is a 26-year-old who has dedicated her life to helping others as a Registered Nurse.  She is selfless, compassionate, and has every quality you could ask for if you were in need of care.  She has comforted patients when they were in their greatest time of need, when they couldn’t breathe, or when they just needed someone to talk to.  In November 2016, things suddenly changed.  A complete role reversal took place, as Tiffany found herself relying on others for help with her own medical emergency.

It all started with a trip to the Ophthalmologist for blurry vision in November.  After a checkup and speaking with the doctor, Tiffany was startled by the immediate referral for an MRI.  She then went seeking help at the very place where she has cared for numerous patients as a Registered Nurse in the past, Martin Health North ER.  On 11/11/2016, Tiffany was diagnosed with a 3.8cm brain tumor.  She was referred to the Jackson Memorial for further care and testing.  There she was diagnosed with a Craniopharyngioma, a tumor of the pituitary gland tissue which was very rare for her age.

Two separate craniotomies were performed at Jackson Memorial.  The first operation was on 12/1/2016, where surgeons removed 50% of the mass over eight long hours.  The second operation was on 12/5/2016, where surgeons entered from a different location and removed an additional 45% of the mass over another eight-hour period.  The tumor itself was attached to the optic nerves, brain, pituitary gland, and hypothalamus which is why the procedures were so lengthy.  After a 28-day stay, with some complications in the mix, Jackson Memorial Hospital let her go home to recover.  A lengthy recovery awaits Tiffany as she will require micro radiation to remove the rest of the tumor with neuro rehab to follow.

Her husband, Giancarlo, is a Fire-Medic with Martin County Fire Rescue.  He has to care for her full time and is currently out on paid leave.  Tiffany, however, is out of paid time off at the hospital where she works.  The unexpected loss of income is significant and medical bills are already coming in.  The purpose of this fundraiser is to offset the hospital bills and loss of income so Giancarlo can worry about taking care of his wife and nothing else at this time.  Let’s reach out to the ones who have selflessly cared for others, and take care of them in their time of need.  No donation is too big or too small, everything helps and is greatly appreciated.
