UCLA STUDENTS TAKE THE FRINGE STAGE!
What is "this world is for the frat bros"?
"this world is for the frat bros" is a new play, written by undergrad playwright Chloe Xtina and directed by recently graduated director Kayla Erickson. An intergalactic tale about two sisters exploring the nebulous and liminal space of female adolescence. Through aliens, dream sex, and female sexuality under the limits of a culture fueled by passive masculinity, our ensemble is excited to create impossible theatre outside of our educational environment. With a team of all-student producers, designers, and performers, our female-led project gives space to the unspokeness of being a teenager, while we are fresh out of our teens.
"this world is for the frat bros" was initially developed at the UCLA School of Theatre and is continuing its development with the Hollywood Fringe. Our goal is to create an accessible theatre environment (admission is entirely free) so as to create as much visibility as possible to the story, our team, and our audience.
We need you!
Because we are an independent project and entirely not-for-profit, we rely on community donations. We want to give our ensemble and audience a performance produced to its fullest but in order to do that, we need you. We are focused on the experience over profit, making our tickets free of charge, meaning we can not rely on ticket sales to fund our show. All contributions to this campaign go directly to our venue, sets, costumes, lights, sound, props, printing, and marketing.
There is no such thing as a small donation! A $5 donation pays entirely for a new prop or costume piece. A $12 donation covers an online advertisement on the Fringe website . A $40 donation covers an hour of tech in our space. A $100 donation covers our entire props budget. Even a $1 donation covers a clementine (which is a super important element to our play)!
The Impact
With your support, our ensemble is able to expand career visibility by sharing with theatre professionals, press, and audiences around LA. This project also helps further our tools in creating theatre independently of an educational setting. Not only does it provide career progress, "this world is for the frat bros" is a super special play to all of us. It’s everything we want theatre to be: magical, unapologetic, androgynous, seemingly impossible, and a space for women to take up. "this world is for the frat bros" is our manifesto.
Thanks to your donations, "this world is for the frat bros" will run June 20-23 at The New American Theatre in Hollywood.
